KotS session 1 questions and comments

To the OP: This is a gamist game. In other words, things aren't overly realistic. IMO that means you've got a (good) minis game tacked onto an RPG. At the moment that doesn't bother me much, but we'll see how it plays out.

And as far as the above goes: yes you can cleave with a dagger.

I see no problem with cleaving with a dagger either from a rules or description perspective. Here is the definition of cleave.

cleave 1 (klv)
v. cleft (klft) or cleaved or clove (klv), cleft or cleaved or clo·ven (klvn), cleav·ing, cleaves
v.tr.
1. To split with or as if with a sharp instrument. See Synonyms at tear1.
2. To make or accomplish by or as if by cutting: cleave a path through the ice.
3. To pierce or penetrate: The wings cleaved the foggy air.
4. Chemistry To split (a complex molecule) into simpler molecules.
v.intr.
1. Mineralogy To split or separate, especially along a natural line of division.
2. To penetrate or pass through something, such as water or air.

The problem is that when people think of cleave they think of a slice guy a in half and then my weapon hits the next guy after it bursts free of the the first guy.

How about I start with a high dagger strike slitting the guys first guys throat and then I flourish a jab into the next guys chest.

Not to mention the old cleave required you to kill something where the new cleave doesn't. If you still don't like it just call it "slash" but then if you did that people would complain "BUT MY MAUL DOESN'T SLASH OMG"

Dammed if you do..

I suspect the Cleave with a dagger was probably related to the OP, and so was talking about cleaving with a thrown dagger, which I'm pretty sure shouldn't be possible.

You can't use a ranged weapon for cleave its Melee weapon only.

Anybody with any actual fighting experience will tell you that most non-fighters go down easy.. no matter how minor their injuries. Thats a minion.

If they've never been in a serious fight before, they might break early. They might get distracted, drop their guard, and the lowliest dagger can spill their entrails.

Do you mean REAL fighting experience? As in, if I lose I die? Or are you referring to competitive boxing/mma matches, some dumb bar fight, or the like? Because most D&D fights mimic the former, not the latter. Because your argument doesn't hold water in the first case. Although, your second paragraph does explain things a bit better.
