KOTS: What metal song should I use for the final confrontation?

"Powerslave", by Iron Maiden
"Higher Power", by Boston

When all else fails, there are always three battle songs you can default back to:
Introduction of Conan, by Basil Poledouris
"You Could Be Mine", by Guns'n'F****n'Roses
"Manowar", by Manowar

Storm raiser by excessive force is great if you have a large army of bad guys marching.

Otherwise Iron maiden Flash of the Blade or Invaders or Judas Priest Between the Hammer and the Anvil are both good choices.

You know, I was going to suggest Powerslave, but I thought it was a tad to melodic for that encounter.

(BTW, I went to see Iron Maiden with Mearls a couple of weeks ago, and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. If you love metal, and can get the chance, go see Bruce and the boys -- they do not rock their age :bmelee: )

The Rouse (and others) is right ,though, you are going to need more songs. I've never heard most of what the Rouse is suggesting (guess I will have to look at his iTunes come Monday) so here are some more suggestions to round it out my original song.

The Mob Rules - Black Sabbath
No Mercy and Fever Dreams - 300 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, cuz that sh**'s Metal!)
Miseria Cantare (The Beginning -- Maybe more "Emo", but I think it works.)
Damage Inc. - Metallica, again.

I would aslo be tempted to put in Rob Zombie's Dragula...but I don't know if I would actually do it when it came to finalizing the playlist. It might work well as a victory march.

If you are looking for good evocative music to go with your games in general, here are some my current recommendations.

- 300 Soundtrack
- There Will Be Blood Soundtrack (Parts of this soundtrack, especially the tracks Henry Plainview, There Will Be Blood, and Proven Lands do a bang up job of helping the DM build tension.)
- The Devil's Rejects Soundtrack (Tyler Bates is a frigg'n genius!)
- Parts of the Lost soundtrack. (The Eyeland, Getting Ethan, and Me and My Big Mouth are some of my favorites.)

Back in the early days of 3e, I compiled a two-CD set I titled "Drums of War", from the Diablo tracks the were available at Blizzard's site, plus special effects from the "A Light In The Belfry" adventure for Ravenloft.

One thing I try to be careful for when selecting stuff like this is to make sure that the music doesn't make it hard to understand each other. Otherwise I'd be suggesting several songs from Metallica's black album (like "Of Wolf And Man").

Nother suggestion here, check out Siddharta. They're a Slovenian metal band.

I've found lyrics aren't so disruptive if no one in the group understands the language.

The Band Nightwish released its last album (Dark Passion Play) with and without lyrics. I highly recommend the lyric-less versions of "Master, Passion, Greed", "Bye, Bye, Beautiful" and "Whoever Brings the Night" for any great battle scene!

Oh, and add "The Poet & the Pendulum" to that, its 13 minutes long!

I've always perfered more "epic" sounding instrumentals, and I've been greatly pleased by Roar of the Earth, the Shadow of the Colossus soundtrack. Check it out, it's some pretty awesome stuff to play when the party finally goes head to head with that BBEG.

Thanks for this I now have the songs I will play for the final encounter of KOTS.
