DC are apparently adding to Arrow, Flash, Gotham, and Constantine with a show called Krypton. No details, but some speculation by AICN and other places. There's also been rumour sof a Supergirl TV series, so I don't know if this is the same thing or a different thing.

We told you Warners was developing a Supergirl TV show. It was confirmed by others.

We told you Fox was developing an X-Men TV show. It was also confirmed by others.

And now? Something that may be inspired by the utter success of new television show Gotham in telling pre-Batman stories and getting an audience familiar with tales to come and teasing them on a weekly basis.

That Man Of Steel writer/producer David Goyer is involved in a TV show called Krypton.

As we have previously mentioned, if you want a DC Comics film made these days, you’ve gotta get a Goyer. And it seems the same may be true for TV shows.

The name suggests a pre-Superman drama set on the planet Krypton, maybe involving the House Of El, maybe Brainiac, maybe an end of the world cult, maybe lots of dragons flying around the place.

Goyer also wrote the screenplay for The Man Of Steel also portrayed some of the Kryptonian lifestyle, as some kind of communist dystopia for which the USA was a blessed relief and alternative. Comics such as the World Of Krypton stories and For The Man Who Has Everything have explored aspects of Krypton, that it would feel hard for such a show to completely ignore.

Goyer has recently been involved with the Constantine and Da Vinci’s Demons TV series. The likes of Gotham has made this kind of “before” show possible, as previously there was the rather similarly themed “before” show Caprica to bear in mind…

Of course, it could be a sitcom set in a comic shop. Who knows?

I get the impression that we're heading for comic book series overload. The same happened with Science Fiction series, some years back, and resulted in the Great Reality Show Blight. When will Hollyweird learn that you can't pop out 10 successful series from a given mold?

They won't learn.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

"Nothing succeeds like success."

Those aren't just mottoes, those are the lifeblood of Big Entertainment.

Hmmm? Are there some I'm missing? Up until a couple of weeks ago it was only Arrow and SHIELD on TV. I've been waiting for this bunch of new superhero shoes for a while!

I think most of the current series are pretty darn good. We now have Arrow, SHIELD, Flash, Gotham, and Constantine.

This is some of what the buzz was, earlier in the year:

I'm iffy on Flash and Gotham. Constantine was OK and has potential. Arrow and Agents of Shield are both good.

Hmmm, not sure I like the sound of this especially if it is going to be the Life and Times of Jor El, Lana and Major Zod. How do you do the gritty grimey Gotham take on a supertech crystalline Utopia? -although I suppose Caprica is a model.

I think we've good a good blend of Comic book Dramas now and am looking forward to Nightwing. I'd even go so far as to include shows like Person of Interest as comic book fodder.

and at least its better than the Witch/Vampire glut:)

Ok, I am not all too familiar with DC/Superman, but didn't the Kryptonians not have any superpowers at all because their sun is the "wrong" color or something? If yes, what exactly will the series be about?

We don't know. All we have is a title. It might not even have anything to do with that!
