L1: Strange Doings (Erekose13 Judging)

[imager]http://www.enworld.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=29952&stc=1[/imager]Garrit opens the door at the top of the stairs and is greeted by a large chambered room. There are three vaulted chambers off the main room. In the centre of the main part of the room is another tall statue similar to the one in the first room. The statue is of a tall figure in long robes and a strange hat atop his head. This statue is not holding anything in it's hands. It appears to be a different person depicted, but they are wearing similar clothing. A layer of dust coats everything in this room though it appears to have been disturbed. At the base of the far wall is what might have once been the remains of great tapestries, now little more than greater piles of dust and mould. (ooc: Without tracking it's hard to get a good sense of direction or purpose to the disturbed dust)

The left room looks like it was once a laboratory. The entrance to this room is a 15' high arch that divides it from the main room. Two long tables have collapsed with the weight of ages. Their original contents smashed upon the floor, long ago dried out. The dust in this chamber has not been disturbed.

The right room looks like it might once have been a bedroom. The entrance to this room is a 15' high arch that divides it from the main room. The furniture has not survived the test of time at all. What might have been a bed and closet are now just piles of mouldy rubble. The dust in this chamber has not been disturbed.

The room straight ahead on the other side of the statue is obscured by the statue from your vantage point (and the narrower entrance). The entrance to this room is only 10' high and while open with an arch you cannot see past it yet.

OOC: Very nice descriptions.

Stepping into the room, Ximix casts a wary eye about, taking in the details of both side chambers. Walking to the right as he approaches the statue, Ximix tries to get a look into the middle room beyond. He will also examine the statue, though he will not approach closer than a meter.

"Someone or something has been in that far room," the Elf speaks quietly, "let us hope we find what is behind this at last."

As he approaches, Ximix can see beyond the statue. In the room beyond there appears to be a large desk that has withstood the ages of decay. Behind the desk lies a skeletal figure slumped in a great stone chair. Atop the desk is a very large tome that is open.

The statue appears to have been distrubed as well, particularly around the head. Ximix still can't identify the culture that the figure belongs too, but given that all writing has been in Ancient Medibarian he has a pretty good idea. The statue is of a finely dressed gentleman with a long flowing robes, pleeted a couple of times in the front with arcane symbols drawn down the pleets. He sports a thin moustache and has hard eyes. The hat looks something like a small box with two sticks sticking out of it with a thin bow held together by the sticks.

Ximix listens hard, and spends as much time as he feels reasonable searching the statue.
[sblock=Rolls]HOLY COW! Finally some good (great!) rolls! Listen=20, Spot=18, Search=21! I'll go ahead and press my luck, making a Know:Arcana and Know:Religion check (That and "The Planes" are my only trained Knowledge skills :( )
Heres the results: Arcana=16 Religion=15 Not too shabby, my dice are Hot! :) [/sblock]
OOC: In what way has the statue been disturbed, is it damaged or is there just dust missing, are there any tracks or indications of what made the disturbance?

"Yes, let us," he responds.

"Oooh.." says Jallembo as he enters the central room as well.

curious hat... he thinks for himself as he spots statue. He starts checking it for secret compartments or possible traps. He then takes a closer look at the mustaches, the eyes and the hat as well.

As he checks around the statue he sees the desk and skeleton in the other room and says: "Let's not touch anything at the moment.. someone has been here before and there may be traps.."

[sblock=DM]search +6 take Ten on statue... nice descriptions I concurr. [/sblock]

As Jallembo mentions traps Ximix blanches a moment. Memories of the deadly contraptions his comrades had set in the hills and canyons around his embattled home came clearly to mind.
OOC: Can Ximix use his search roll to Aid Another on Jallembo or how would that work?

ooc: I'll have Jallembo aiding Ximix on the search to reward that nice roll.

Ximix and Jallembo examine the statue and determine that most of the 'disturbance' is the dust being moved. But there is something missing from around it's neck. There might once have been an amulet or necklace at some point.

As the two check the statue, Garrit moves into the room beyond to have a better look. Inside he is greated with a sight that he had not expected. In the north east corner (so not visible from outside) he finds the rended carcass of a large furred animal. It appears to have been torn apart by a knife or some form of weapon (as opposed to the cow which was by claws). He also sees the skeleton (which is stationary... for now) stooped in the great stone chair and a heavy tome on top of a marble desk.

[sblock=Ximix]Ximix's checks:
Know: Arcana, with a good picture of costume plus the evidence of the language in the outer area you are certain that this statue is from the Ancient Medibarian kingdom that once spanned the whole area. Medibaria was a magical empire that crumbled under its own weight ages ago.

Know:religion, several of the symbols on this statue point to necromancy and different types of undead rituals.

Listen: Just as he finishes the search, Ximix hears faint grunt followed by gibbering laughter coming from down behind Manon and Razin in the direction of the cells.[/sblock]

Jallembo remains focused on the statue and notices the missing amulet. His first reaction is to walk towards the skeleton in the chair to have a bette look at it. He doesn't enter the room and checks by sight if the skeleton would have some sort of necklase as well.

Then he'll start checking for trap in the room especially as he sees the animal in the corner. He is unaware of the laughter in the back.

"I believe this entire area may have been dedicated to the study of Necromancy. It certainly fits what I know of the kingdom that these writings ... did you hear that?"
Ximix turns back towards the stairs, and the cells below. "I heard crazed laughter and . . . something else. Make yourselves ready for attack from the rear!" Ximix, his sword and shield already on guard, turns to face the door and stairs below...
Follow this up with some more rolling!
