Lantern Archon cohort?

They can only 'port themselves and 50lbs of objects.

... and an unlimited number of messages. They're perfect communicators, too, with tongues in effect.

Classes that I would play one as (if I were to play one) warlock, rogue, scout, sorcerer, fighter, monk, maybe favored soul if I can get around focus problems. Order of the Bow Initiate could work, too.

Warlock would be nice, except for the alignment thing. Most other classes use equipment or components of some sort -- his utter inability to do (S)omatic components will screw him for almost all caster types.

Psion is a good choice, though the Lantern Archon's Int penalty will hurt. Ardent perhaps? Scout isn't a bad choice either. He can't disarm traps, but at least he can find them without much risk to himself.

Nifft, I like the underlying idea behind the PRC, it's a good idea, but, eh on the result. I may make a modified version at some point for my game.

Thanks! To be honest, I didn't make it intending it to be used by a Cohort. It's there for the planar binding and planar ally spells, which only look at HD, not at LA. So the abilities that I'm granting are probably 4 levels too late for a Cohort. :)

Wilder would be best choice (no charisma penalty, no need for components etc). Rogue would also be nifty, just because of the sneak attack pumping up the damage on the light rays.

I'm having trouble seeing how a ball of light limited to ranged attacks (can't flank) will be able to generate sneak attacks. Perhaps if someone can cast greater invisibility on him every fight? :) Scout is better, IMHO, since that damage is easy to generate; and at character level 5 or 6, Skirmish damage is only 1d6 behind Sneak Attack damage.

Wilder is pretty good, but consider Psychic Warrior: the bonus feats can be used for Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Psionic Shot, and similar. Wisdom bonus is identical to Charisma bonus, too.

Psion if you can get past the Int penalty, Wilder otherwise. Psychic Warrior is a little too Melee-oriented. They have as inherent abilities basically everything Vow of Poverty can't cover (Teleporation, flight, ranged attacks, and so on). Practically a must for the build.

A Vow of Poverty Wilder Lantern Archon with Psychic Reformation could do very, very well... at +0 LA. A higher LA than that, not so much.

... which is why you use planar binding or planar ally and not Leadership. :)

A lantern archon familiar is one of the most powerful options I've seen for a wizard. Get it using share spells and teleporting around with magic items and messages and the thing is a massive workhorse. And don't underestimate its 10/magic and evil DR; that is tough to beat. Even Aid is a great buff for the temporary hp when you have it semi-permanently active.

The thing that is really beautiful is sharing spell an anti-magic field with it. It can still fly, you can still cast spells, and your enemy is very screwed.

The share spells requires the thing to be within 5 feet of you at ALL times. Barring house rules that allow for simultaneous movement, that AMF ends for it as soon as one of you move in combat.
