Large Half-Orc Viable?

Do you have Races of Stone or the XPH? Powerful Build might be just what you're looking for.

Wait, it's in the SRD. Here's the SRD half-giant race:
• +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, –2 Dexterity: Half-giants are tough and strong, but not too nimble.
• Giant: Half-giants are not subject to spells or effects that affect humanoids only, such as charm person or dominate person.
• Medium: As Medium creatures, half-giants have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
• Half-giant base land speed is 30 feet.
• Low-Light Vision: A half-giant can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. He retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
• Fire Acclimated: Half-giants have a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against all fire spells and effects. Half-giants are accustomed to enduring high temperatures.
• Powerful Build: The physical stature of half-giants lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger.
Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the half-giant is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him.
A half-giant is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A half-giant can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category.
• Naturally Psionic: Half-giants gain 2 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class.
• Psi-Like Ability: 1/day—stomp. Manifester level is equal to 1/2 Hit Dice (minimum 1st). The save DC is Charisma-based.
• Automatic Language: Common. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Giant, Gnoll, Ignan.
• Favored Class: Psychic warrior.
• Level Adjustment: +1.

Keep in mind that all creatures--so far--with powerful build also have a level adjustment. It's actually probably not worth a LA on its own, just be careful what else you give them, like ability adjustments.

Right now I am using a Taint System (Modified from UA) which I call Dragon taint, which affects everything, so as is everything got beefed up at lower levels, but starting around level 5 thier eyeballs start rotting out or turning draconic, teeth fall out, arms stop working, they go mad, etc. (Unless they take Flaws, which negates 5 points of Taint), so I really don't need an LA.

However, if the Dragon taint system weren't in place, i think every race would need an LA of at least +1 in my campaign, some human regions might even require a +2. :)

Also, because the world is shattered right now, any of the mixed races (Manbred half-Elf, Highborn half-Elf, and half-Orc so far) are hunted to extinction. The halflings were already wiped out by the humans under the control of the dragon overlords (Gnomes however died off of some plague that the pc's failed to stop many years ago, when i ran 2nd edition). So i figgered making them a little tougher to survive is a good thing, because no one likes thier brand new pc to be hacked to death 5 minutes into the first adventure by a crowd of commoners :)

You kick arse. A lot. Copious amounts, you might say. I'm not a huge fan of the small races.

I really don't understand the hate for small races. A midget kill your father or something? Why is this prejudice so pervasive? Is it, perhaps, the inverse of that psychological phenomenon that makes people more likely to trust a politician if they think he's tall?

Nah, I don't hate halflings, I do hate gnomes however. The adventure was set up that there was a plague infecting the gnomes, and the pc's had a chance to stop it. they didn't bother with it, so the gnomes all died out.

The halflings in my campaign were always fringe-type chaarcter's, and were looked upon with disdain anyway. During the dragon overlord campaign, the pc's again had a chance to save the halflings, they just didn't. and the halflings being fringe type characters couldn't band together in any sort of fashion, so were hunted to extinction. trust me, there are repercussions. (The prophecy was that when the halfling race was no more, a new even more terrible threat would arrive to sunder the dragon overlord's hold, and lo and behold I introduced kender via a planar portal from krynn, mwa ha ha ha haaaa; player's hated me for that one.)
The dwarves were all enslaved to mine for ancient artifacts from long ago eras (and thier stats have changed to reflect this), and the human warrior-slaves were forced to combat the elves; who were the only race to stay free, but many of the older ones were killed off, meaning the current elven race harbors many hatreds for the other races (especially humans).

so, really there's no prejudice on my part, it's the pc's not caring.
