Large PC races

I liked some of the options that approximated large size or bulk without the actual size change, such as the goliath's Powerful Build or the Hulking Brute feat from the Dragonlance Campaign Setting (available to half-ogres, minotaurs, and Tarmak).

I think enlarge person will atleast be in since the Duergar can now use it as one of their I believe, per-encounter abilities.
From what we've been told, monster abilities will no longer be tied to spells in the PHB. They will be unique effects.

While I like large characters conceptually, they are problematic not only because of active combat rules but also because they exist in a world that is mostly sized for medium creatures. You cannot have claustrophobic dungeon corridors, all ceilings will need to be quite taller (they need to accomodate a large size creature swinging a large size weapon), you need to find a way to introduce appropriate sized weapons and armor for them (free resizing may sound handy. but it is also ridiculous.) Maybe in a campaign were large creatures are very common and engineering accomodates them (like the Diamond Throne) it would be easier to handle.

Yeah, but the mechanics of it will still be the same, so theoretically even if it isn't a spell one could easily make it one.

I really really really hope the new MM has rules to play a Minotaur at lvl 1. Really really.

You can do this already in Dragonlance. Unless you mean "enormous scary hairy beast with hooves and immunity to mazes" in which case, maybe not.

But yeah. We've got your tauren fix covered.

Cheers,
Cam

Good point! I should check that out.

P.S. I've love Minotaurs for years, but I never could get into playing a Tauren. Made a couple of them, but never got past lvl 6-8.
