Leadership Feat

Hmm, do you just tell the "old" cohort, "Sorry man, you just suck." and kick him to the curb?

You've never parted ways with an employer or mentor on good terms? I can easily think of many ways to explain the dismissal.

A bard cohort would probably get wanderlust and want to strike out on his own.

A cleric with a cohort could instruct his assistant that his practical religious education has been completed and he should go to serve the church directly now.

A wizard who has been "training" his cohort in the mystical arts could suggest that his cohort seek more formal training.

Any leader could release a cohort to pursue any individual goals that cohort had.

It just takes a little bit of imagination and any number of perfectly viable reasons can be created.

And now for something completely different...

Does anyone use rules that state that the cohort has to be the same class (or similar) as the leader?

Re: And now for something completely different...

Where is that written? I was reading through the feat and did not see it anywhere.

I sure hope it is not an official rule. Part of the use of the leadership feat is to bring in a cohort who can cover some of your weaknesses. It does no good to bring in a character that does the exact same thing as your character but not as well.

Oh... I know it isn't written that way... the feat makes me think of a mentor program... where you are taking someone under your wing to show him the ropes.

The Cohort looks up to you, wants to be like you, and learn all he can from you.

[edit] I am just thinking that anyone can hire another adventurer to fill in the gaps in their party. A cohort is someone who is working for free in order to learn from the best ( at least the best he can find...).
