Lance 1d8/x3
Say you are +3 str bonus
And you Power Attack for -5
So you are at 1d8+14 [(3x1.5)+(5x2)=14.5]
Add leap attack and the PA doubles, so triple 5.
1d8+19
A lance deals double damage if employed by a mounted character in a charge.
Is that (1d8+4)+(1d8+19) or is it (1d8+19)x2 or what?
Add to that a crit?
I gotcha!
Lances deal double damage on a charge - it's mechanically similar to lances always making a normal critical hit whenever you charge.
So: Lances ...
We'll assume, for the moment, that the "a lance is always a two-handed weapon (and therefore 1-for-2 PA) regardless of how it's being used" interpretation is correct. Moreover, having your horse charge and leap qualifies for Leap Attack.
We'll assume an 18 Strength character - +4 is easier to use than +3.
Lances, then, do 1d8 + 6 on a normal hit.
When Power Attacking for -5, you get a +5 bonus on damage. Since the lance is two-handed, that gets doubled to +10. Accordingly, a PA -5 Lance does:
1d8 + 6 + (5x2) = 1d8 + 16 damage
If you charge with your lance, you deal double damage. This really means "roll damage one more time," not "mulitply by two," so:
1d8 + 6 + (5x2) + 1d8 + 6 + (5x2) = 2d8 + 32 damage
If, instead of merely charging, you were to make a Leap Attack, the extra damage from PA is multiplied by 3, not by two, so we end up with:
1d8 + 6 + (5x3) + 1d8 + 6 + (5x3) = 2d8 + 42 damage
And, finally, should you score a critical hit with your Leap Attack, you have a x3 critical multiplier. Again, this means "roll damage two more times," not "multiply by three," so we end up with:
1d8 + 6 + (5x3) + 1d8 + 6 + (5x3) + 1d8 + 6 + (5x3) + 1d8 + 6 + (5x3) = 4d8 + 84
So, in summary:
- Lance, Normal
- Normal: 1d8 + 6
- Critical: 3d8 + 18
- Lance, Normal, Power Attack (-5)
- Normal: 1d8 + 16
- Critical: 3d8 + 48
- Lance, Charge
- Normal: 2d8 + 12
- Critical: 4d8 + 24
- Lance, Charge, Power Attack (-5)
- Normal: 2d8 + 32
- Critical: 4d8 + 64
- Lance, Leap Attack, Power Attack (-5)
- Normal: 2d8 + 42
- Critical: 4d8 + 84
