The thrones graven skull is as oId as the throne itself, but 11 black sapphires (nine teeth and two eyes) are more recent.

I suggest stepping back 25 feet from this dais. Unless Sim has a sense from his previous checks that the cold/necrotic is a trap, he will look for the shortest route to the thrown to get in position behind the seat. If something seems like it will happen when he steps on the dais, he will jump back. Otherwise, he will quickly remove one eye gem with his dagger. If nothing happens, he will repeat this for one of the teeth gems. If something does seem like it will happen when he removes a gem, he will try to jump back away from the throne and dais.

That's how it's done! Does Forge think a little blunt force trauma may help with the portal?

You pop out an eye gem...which may not be a normal gem...and take 17 in cold and necrotic damage from the throne (minus any resistance), which barely qualifies as a "trap". Do you keep going?

You never know, it might.

Sim currently does not have any resistances (other than a feat that reduces ongoing damage by 9). But he has the regen 5 while bloodied so he will remove the other eye gem than jump off to get a better look at the gems and see if they are magical.

You get both jems, and take another 22 points in damage. So are pretty badly hurt again.

You think both gems are magical.

Forge rolls over to the portal and gives it a viscous boot (36 athletic).

the dwarf feels a shudder...and takes no damage from it...so something must have happened.

The mist is still there.

Sim will regenerate back to non-bloodied. Can he determine if it was proximity to the throne that caused the damage or removing the gems? He will try to determine what kind of magic invests the gems (arcana – 39). Do the other (teeth) gems look/feel magical?
