I thought it was a good episode overall, but the end fight just seemed off. The Mord Sith repels a magical attack against Kahlan, almost as if to show that she can, and then she wanders off before the next one. And the Sword of Truth protects Richard from Nicci's spell, yet it does nothing for Leo. I don't know, maybe I'm expecting too much from a show like this when I demand at least a little consistency in the writing.

Yeah I thought that end fight was rather rushed and Nicci went down rather easily for someone with so much power (supposedly).

I agree, although what I couldn't but thinking at the end was 'Did Richard lose all of his Magical Power?' In the books, if I remember correctly, he IS a Wizard and Seeker, but unless his power suddenly returned to him at the end, he's now only a Seeker and not a Wizard.

I thought the same thing. It would have been smart for them to try get Kara to Nicci, since Mord Sith always beats Wizard in this game. If they weren't planning to do that then they shouldn't have even reminded us that Mord Sith can control magic used against them.

As far as the sword not protecting Leo, Leo was stupidly jumping in front of the lightning in a "hit me!" maneuver, while Richard had to hold the sword up and concentrate or push or something like that (he certainly looked like it was an effort). That, plus the fact that Richard has been using the sword much longer than Leo I think can explain Leo's death with no problems. Richard has a stronger bond with the sword to the point where he was getting anger feedback from it in an earlier episode. In my mind it's not unreasonable at all that Richard can do things with the sword that Leo couldn't.

I think Leo's death was due to stupid characters, not necessarily due to bad writing. (Though it could be a combination of both.)

That's actually a bonus in my mind. Richard was too much of a Swiss Army Knife with an "I win!" button in the books. Everything cool that could be done, Richard could do it. I groaned when they started talking about his wizard powers a few episodes ago and found it refreshing when they took his powers away, then groaned again when there was talk of returning the powers to him. I hope they're gone for good.

And what reason does Zedd have to stick with the party if Richard is a more powerful wizard? If I'm remembering correctly (and I may not be, since I read the books so long ago) Zedd didn't "adventure" with Richard and Kahlan in the books. Zedd's got his own "I win" button that I won't go into, but I like his character and I feel like the series would lose something if he ended up retiring to a castle or city somewhere.

Plus, lack of magical ability makes Richard seem less of a bad copy of Rand from Wheel of Time.

Don't see the problem here. It's a melee, not a chess match. What you ought to be doing and what you wind up doing are often not one and the same. A mord sith isn't immune to nake steel. Isn't it possible that people trying to stab you can divert your attention for an all-important second? And that the wizard would look for such an opening? As for Leo--maybe he didn't know he could do that? Maybe he just acted instinctively?

If you are expecting characters to behave in a consistent, clinical, chessgame-like manner in the middle of a free-for-all, then yeah you're expecting too much.

Great fight scene IMO, specificaly because it felt like a skirmish and not something overly choreographed.
