While trying to prevent the Box of Orden from winding up in Darken Rahl's hands, Richard learns something new about his ties to Zedd.

So the first of seven layers of defenses Zedd puts around the box burns people to a crisp? I'm wondering if he was using some kickass epic-level variant of prismatic sphere here where the sphere is invisible and has a very long duration.

I would have thought that some of those guys would have said, "screw it, the frying force field is a definite killer, I'm going to risk the crossbow bolt."

More like "screw it, the frying force field is a definite killer, I'm going to take down the guy with the crossbow while he's reloading."

Marching into that barrier en masse was pretty stupid. Unless they think Rahl would be brutal enough to slaughter them all for not blithely marching to their deaths but he hasn't pulled Evil Stupid of that level yet that I can tell. He knows he's dealing with a very tricky wizard here, so I doubt he'd overreact, especially after he can just resort to the magic-nullifying power of the Mord Sith, and he know about this ungifted girl.

I agree. It absolutely doesn't make sense for that squad leader to have continued to order his troops to march into the barrier. After the first one he should have sent for someone qualified to deal with magic...

Unless he really didn't like any of his subordinates and wanted to get new ones.

Yeah, sometimes they do things on this show that are really idiotic. What's that saying... "stupid is doing the same thing twice and expecting different results"? Did he hope to overwhelm the firewall with a wall of bodies?
