Legolas: What do YOUR elven eyes see?

Ziona

First Post
Okay, I've gone 'round in circles with some of my friends over this, so I thought I'd bring it up here...

Legolas seems to have brown/hazel eyes throughout Fellowship, yet in TTT, his eyes are as bright blue as Frodo's in certain shots. Not once in Fellowship are they ever as blue as they are in TTT.

However, I have friends who fight me on this, and others who agree with me...what say you? Have his eyes always been blue (since Fellowship) or have they changed in TTT? What is the purpose of the change?

Here are some pics to illustrate what I mean...

FX budget increase?

Attempt to pacify a purist out cry?

I have no idea, but I noticed too. I liked the brown better because it looked more natural. But that's me.

A true blond would have blond eyebrows (or at least lighter than his), so I don't dwell on it too much. :)

:D

I just thought maybe they wanted to illustrate the use of his elven eyesight in TTT. I dunno, just a thought. But then others say they think they were just a darker shade of blue in Fellowship. I see them as brown, or at least hazel, but not blue in Fellowship. (or at least not as startling blue as they are in TTT).

now that you mention it

I have a sister who has seen TTT more times than me. We went together last weekend and she pointed out that for most of the movie his eyes were blue but at 2 others times (tracking the hobbits & Helm's Deep?) they were clearly brown. The times in the movies I mentioned may be off but there were definately 2 different colors in TTT.

That's weird! But cool too. Heck, he's an elf, I'm sure changing the colour of his eyes is the least he can do...

BTW, I read today that every arrow he fires in the films was added afterwards. This meant he could easily fire shots at much higher speeds than would otherwise have been possible. Cool, huh?

What enhancement bonus is THAT on a bow?!

I just wonder what the point is to the color change...at first I thought maybe it was to show he was using his elven sight, but his eyes are blue during scenes when he's not actively using it. Then I was thinking maybe it was for darkvision, but no luck there since they're blue in dark & light scenes.

At any rate, I knew they changed colors. If you look at other pics of Legolas from TTT his eyes are still a different shade of blue, like here for instance...

They're dark, but they aren't brown like they are in Fellowship, yet they aren't as blue as some of the other scenes in TTT.

Just an observation... :)
