Let me help you find the right board game

Just trying to put it into some perspective for people unfamiliar with his work. Monte Cook's the most prodigious name I can think of in the RPG industry off the top of my head (maybe Gary Gygax, but that brings other connotations that would misserve the comparison)

Steve Jackson?

Cheers!

Does powergrid really play in 2 hours?

I only played it the once, and it ran significantly longer (learning curve), so I don't know the actual estimated play time.

It was hella fun though.

Oh, just thought of something else: Citadels is a great game for large groups which moves quickly but still feels significant. I wouldn't call it a strategy game per se, but it definitely does involve strategy. It's largely a game of second guessing people and bluffing. The nice thing about it is that it's really difficult, if not impossible, for people to gang up on one person.

Good point, though it's worth noting that you need an expansion to play 6 players with Carcassonne. It's kinda nice, though, because you can adjust how long you want the game to last by adding or removing expansions, and the game takes the same amount of time to play regardless of number of players (there's basically X turns, so if you've got N players, then each person will get approximately X/N turns).

...on purpose. We managed to gang up on Randy extremely well, but we didn't mean to. He just kept choosing the role that got assassinated or stolen from!

Citadels is very, very cool. It's best with 5, but plays very well with 4-6. Transeuropa and Transamerica are two of the better 6 player games I know, but they're about 30 minutes or so to play.

World of Warcraft: the Board Game is 6 players... and takes significantly more than two hours, alas. (I once played a 6-7 hour game!)

Starcraft is 6 players, but probably takes about 3+ hours with such. It's one of the shorter big box FFG games.

Cheers!

TransAmerica/TransEuropa seems a little bit short for two hours. It's a fun, short game (and the only rail game I can be convinced to play), but it can start to get boring if you play for hours on end.

My wife...

Hi,
I am married with a toddler. My wife and I need a quick(ish) game (including set-up). I would prefer a fantasy (or mythology) based game. It needs to be simple and quick (we can only really play after the boy goes down).

Thanks,
RK
