Let Warlord be Warlord

How about... dum, dum dum... Warduke!

Anyway, this discussion's gettying pretty tiring. Every single suggestion is lamer than Warlord. Especially suggestions like Herald, which have absolutely nothing to do with the intended class role. The Warlord isn't supposed to carry messages, nor is he supposed to work on heraldry. So why change his name to Herald? May as well call him the Jester class. It makes about as much sense.

No one agrees on the name, maybe because no one agrees on the concept? How about getting rid of class entirely and make space for the Druid? ;)

I figured let people continue to crack at it. Perhaps in the continuing process one name shall rise to which most people will nod and smile and say that's the one. There's really nothing lost by trying, just ignore those threads if you don't care.

There is one name which would fit the Warlord splendidly - Paladin. They were (and, in fact, are) high level feudal officials, and at the same time legendary warriors. The name Paladin would fit a Martial Leader role much better than Divine Defender.

I always thought that spellcasting Paladins are mostly a mistake.

Or, if you want a martial character devoted to healing, what about Knight Hospitaller?

If the name wasn't taken for another class, I would completely agree. I do think it would have been better to use paladin for the leader role and then something like knight for the defender role.

As for Divine Defender, a much better name would be "Grail Knight". Historical heroic Paladins, the twelve peers of Charlemagne, never had anything to do with spellcasting. The Grail Knights were decidedly more magical:

"In a far-off land, inaccessible to your steps,
there is a castle by the name of Montsalvat;
a light-filled temple stands within it,
more beautiful than anything on earth;
therein is a vessel of wonderous blessing
that is watched over as a sacred relic:
that the purest of men might guard it,
it was brought down by a host of angels;
every year a dove descends from Heaven
to fortify its wonderous power:
it is called the Grail, and the purest, most blessed faith
is imparted through it to the Brotherhood of Knights.
Whosoever is chosen to serve the Grail
is armed by it with heavenly power;
the darts of evil prove powerless against him,
once he has seen it, the shadow of death flees him.
Even he who is sent by it to a distant land,
appointed as a champion of virtue,
will not be robbed of its holy power,
provided that he, as its knight, remains unrecognised there."

This was pointed out by another user in the poll thread, but how likely is it that characters in the game would refer to themselves by class anyway? It's just a designation for the meta-game.

So the argument is, keep the class name, because the character will never use it?

Err, yeah, that makes sense. :confused:
