D&D (2024) Let's call it 5.24

D&D 2024.

5e doesn't belong to WOTC and there are now several 5e variants, some of which came out in 2024. Level Up Advanced 5e, for example has its own independent 5e SRD.

D&D is one of these variants with a 2014 and 2024 version. D&D 2024 isn't hard and it's more accurate.

5e is the platform, D&D 2024 is the game. So is Tales of the Valiant and Level Up Advanced 5e.

D&D 2024 is WOTC's latest take on 5e. It isn't all of 5e.

Let's stop handing out power and then complaining about how it's handled. 5e is ours now and we can do anything we want with it.

D&D 2024 is what the company you're aiming to spite wants you to use because they want to erase the edition word and suggest 5.5 is now the only D&D.

Another vote for 5.2 here, to match the naming of the SRD 5.2. Referring to D&D (2014) with the equivalent naming convention, it would be version 5/5.1.

I'd call v5.0 as 2014-2015 and v5.1 as 2016-2023, reflecting those periods of the OGL-SRD-5E. Though the final Basic Rules came out in 2018 and some people would consider 5.1 to be Tasha's given its substantial rules updates…

Interesting separation. I could get on board with 5.0 as 5e up to Tasha's; 5.1 to reflect the transitional era from Tasha's to 2024, with its changing standards on rules and lore; and 5.2 for the 2024 revision itself.

I say D&D. Then again, I also say kleenex when I really mean, technically, Walmart brand facial tissue. A far as I'm concerned, D&D is synonymous with the hobby. What kind of d&d am I playing? I dunno, call of cthulhu. Also, pass me a coke. No, not that kind, the Dr. Pepper kind.

I could get on board with that, too. I just meant if I was going to set v5.0 as start of 5E and v5.2 as 2024/2025 new rulebooks, and was going to literally follow SRD timeline, the 5.0 SRD was 2015, and the 5.1 SRD was 2016. But v1.0 Basic Rules was 2018.

I could also see a v5.0.1 as 2014, v.5.0.2 as 2015 with the 5.0 SRD, v.5.1.1 as 2016 SRD, v5.1.2 as the 2017 Xanathar's-related updates, v.5.1.3 as the 2018 v1.0 Basic Rules and Core Rules gift set, v5.1.4 as Tasha's in 2020, v5.1.5 as the Rules Expansion gift set (MP:MOTM and updates to XGE & TCE) in 2022, and now v5.2 with the 2024/2025 core rules update.

My group and I have been calling it "R5E" for months. (It's our shorthand for Revised 5th Edition.)

I doubt we'll change our mind any time soon.
