Let's hook up

Hook-up means, as a verb, to come together. We use it quite a bit.

"Let's all hook-up at Paul's Club before we go to the Overture Center."

We also use it as a noun, meaning something needed, often a connection or 'in'.

"Brody, I got your hook-up, no worries."

I even have an old Hook-Ups t-shirt, they made skateboards or something. www.hookupsfever.com (not especially safe for work!)
And they seem to think it is sexual.

Gotta love slang.

You may rethink the hi-five also. It is used as slang for HIV. HI and the roman numeral for five=V. Using the girl from the above example. Amy got HI-Ved last week, or something along those lines. I heard about it on Oprah. She was talking with people about teen sex and they use the phrase to refer to someone getting HIV.

HI-V was a pro wrestling group.

And i'm still bringing it back.

What will the slang of the 22nd century be like? There might be a diversion of the English language. It could possibly have two subgroups; TechnoCant and SteetSpeak. None of us will know, unless some radical breakthrough happens in the field of medicine.
Olde English will make a come back.

Utah is a bit behind the times as well. I live in the boonies, too so I think I'm close to 10 years behind. I think people are just discovering grunge rock music. :p

I thought "hooking-up" was the term for going out, or more aptly, getting setup ("blind date" 20th century language). For casual friendship, the term would be "hangin' out", but then again I'm a bit behind.
