Let's talk about money.

These answers are off the top of my head...

1. An Oscar sized statue, solid gold.
1,000 gp
2. Diamonds the size of a ping-pong ball, a tennisball and a soccer ball.\
1,000 / 5,000 / 50,000 gp
3. An 8X15 tapestry of imported thread that depicts a local legend of a dragon slaying.
8x15 what? feet? 500 gp anywhere, up to 5,000 gp in collectors' circles or at the hero's home
4. A mundane dagger that belonged to a notorious thieves guild dagger 60 years ago (Capones gun).
5gp anywhere, up to 100 gp in collectors' / thieves' circles (or more, depending on the exact owner)
5. An albino horse.
40 gp to 200 gp, depending on the regional outlook on albinos
6. A new door with iron banding for the inn my fighter, Ragder, owns.
25-50 gp, or I'd check MMS: Western Europe :)
7. To have a runner take a shoebox across town.
2sp to 2gp, depending on the size and nature of the town
8. A ferry ride across the river. With a horse.
2sp-1gp for the rider, 1gp-2gp for the horse, depending on where the river is and its exact nature (width, strength of current, along a trade route, etc.)
9. My portrait, cause I am pretty.
2gp to 2,000 gp, depending on the artist and size of the portrait (maybe even more)
10. A live pig. For setting off traps.
5sp-2gp, and a shocked expression by some commoners.

I think, however, that prizes in the PHB (and here) are too high. But I went from what PCs do and are supposed to earn in their lives.

Right. Way back in the 2e days, I went back to the gem tables in the DMG and redid the last few based on carat size and value per carat - so by my system the Star of Africa (the 530 carat diamond) would be worth about 400,000 gp - though anything that theoretically valuable is going to have a high fluctuation rate, since so few people can even consider buying it. My system had the standard "5,000 gp diamond" being about 6 2/3 carats - still very big in real world terms.

Could you share your system with us? It sounds interesting...

Did you see how much the Cullinane and Cullinane II are worth? The Cullinane has about 2/3 the volume of a golf ball and it is priceless. Which means it would be put up for auction to see how many 10's or 100's of millions it would sell for. My bet, $40 Million.

Priceless by Earth standards. In D&D, there was no diamond monopoly (depending on setting of course).

Please state the values for the following items:

I'm going to write my answers first then see what everyone else said. Hmmm, looks like I matched up pretty good.

1. An Oscar sized statue, solid gold.

Guessing 3 lbs weight so at least 150gp. Depending on quality of casting and craftsmanship could be from 150gp-3,000gp

2. Diamonds the size of a ping-pong ball, a tennisball and a soccer ball.\
Diamonds vary a lot on cut. An exotic cut stone can be worth 2x or 3x a stone of similar size but standard cut. Color & clarity are game-world specific details but a diamond mobius loop trumps a square-cut diamond. Assuming identical similar cuts I'd set the costs at 50,000gp, 250,000gp, and 2,000,000gp. (It's a freaking soccer ball!)

3. An 8X15 tapestry of imported thread that depicts a local legend of a dragon slaying.
Depends on the condition and the skill. If it's in good shape I'd say at least 100gp based on the imported materials but that could go up to around 1,000gp for a masterwork weaver.

4. A mundane dagger that belonged to a notorious thieves guild dagger 60 years ago (Capones gun).
This is very setting dependent. 99% of the time I'd value it at the PHB price since it's just a dagger. To a collector maybe 100gp, tops, but only if it's highly identifiable and can be verified.

5. An albino horse.
Feh, maybe double the price of a normal horse to a circus. To working-type people an albino horse is probably worth 75% of a normal horse since they are sensitive to light and tend to be of lesser strength IIRC.

6. A new door with iron banding for the inn my fighter, Ragder, owns.
Ummm, not sure. I use the MMS:WE book for building creation. I'm guessing about 20-30gp.

7. To have a runner take a shoebox across town.
a couple of coppers for the rambunctious tow-headed child standing nearby, 3-5sp for a trustworthy armed individual.

8. A ferry ride across the river. With a horse.
Depends on the river. Probably a silver for you and 1-2 silver for your horse.

9. My portrait, cause I am pretty.
Depends on the painter. Joe-Bob would get about 1gp. Michelangelo would get 1,000gp.

10. A live pig. For setting off traps.
I'd look in the PHB, under commodity animals.

Please state the values for the following items:

1. Enough for a merchant to spend ten years without working. Enough for a peasant family of seven to live out their days without working (though their days would probably be cut very short by the arrival of thieves or a local, or higher, magistrate to collect for "king and country, you understand"). Enough for a minor noble to raise a regiment of soldiers for a campaign and take command of them in the field for a year.

2. All are tremendously valuable. The first is so valuable that it adorns an emperor's crown which is only worn on special occasions (coronations, weddings, certain holidays), otherwise kept under guard in a vault. Peasants never even see it, and if they do, they are blinded by orders of the emperor so that they may never find it again, or lead anyone to it. Scenario 1 for the second and third: these are valuable only insofar as they can be cut into gems that are actually recognizable. If a good cut yields numerous stones, they are valued at the total yield. Scenario 2 is pure fantasy, which is what the game is anyway, and in that case the second stone is the centerpiece of a dragon's hoard (Arkenstone), and could keep a small kingdom in good financial stead for years or possibly a century, while the second is the soul container of a devil, demiurge, or other quasi-deific entity, and therefore has no real monetary value because it can't be afforded by anyone, but instead causes seas to boil, captures and stores the light of the sun, or has other equally amazing capabilities.

3. In D&D terms, 1,000 gold pieces on common market, 4,000 for a collector or historical society.

4. 100 gold to a collector or museum. 1 to someone who doesn't know what it is.

5. To a horse afficionado with a taste for the rare, five good mares and a new foal that will grow to stud.

6. Free beer for a competent blacksmith and carpenter for a year at the very inn for which they made the door.

7. Five silver coins if it makes it there in 10 minutes. Another five if the runner forgets the box exists once it's delivered.

8. One of the following: ten apples; a side of bacon; five mugs of beer; a skin of wine; a pound of salt; two small pelts, cured; a pouchful of tobacco; three eggs; a steel awl; 20' feet of sturdy rope; five silver coins; thirty figs; seven potatoes; a brief dental examination; one sign painted; a jar of oil; four lumps of coal; a bound stack of kindling.

9. For 10 gold coins I'll paint a good likeness to hang in your hall. For 100 gold coins I will make you look better than you really do. For a small bag of cinnamon, a small bag of saffron, a small bag of sugar, and a silver bar, I'll risk painting your portrait better than that of the duke, and you'll never see me again after that . . . .

10. Not expected to live long, probably not much of a pig: one scrawny chicken.

IMC, none of these items would have a set value, and "magically" transform into a set amount of gold-pieces at the end of the adventure.

The first problem would be of knowing where to find potential customers, and then you would had to bargain over said item to get money. Then, a diamond the size of a soccer ball is likely to attract hordes of thieves and criminals, cannot be valued at all, and even if the king is willing to buy it, gathering several tons of gold pices may prove unpractical. In fact, how one may value the price of a unique item? Just search for some excentric and rich NPC and try to convince him to buy the thing, and it will depends on his tastes, his mood of the moment, and of course if he has money for that at that time. (So, for example, the rich eccentric is willing to give you 54,327 gp for that soccer ball-sized diamond. In fact he says this is all the money he has, but it couldbe a lie... You tell him: "What? You are kidding us, this diamond is worth 1,000,000 gp!"; and so he says: "And who is going to buy it? The evil emperor? You perfectly know what happened to the last adventurers who tried to sell him the fabled Orb of Drulxithaan, don't you?".)

I would adjudicate this on the spur of the moment. First looking the PHB/DMG for suggestion, then making it clear these are price right now, not the forever everywhere price for that stuff/service.

Figure out the weight and calculate the value of the raw gold. Multiply by three. This is a RAW answer, based on the Craft rules.

2. Diamonds the size of a ping-pong ball, a tennisball and a soccer ball.
This heavily depends on their quality (flaws) and cut. Assuming cut and flawless diamonds: the first would be 10000 GP. The second and third are priceless. Their value is undetermined, as the only upper limit is what the buyer can afford to pay.

3. An 8X15 tapestry of imported thread that depicts a local legend of a dragon slaying.
Again, this heavily depends on quality. It could be anything from 200 to 4000.

4. A mundane dagger that belonged to a notorious thieves guild dagger 60 years ago (Capones gun).
To a rich collector, maybe 1000, assuming that the item can be identified. But these characters aren't too easy to find in most settings.

5. An albino horse.
Umm... about 500 I guess.

6. A new door with iron banding for the inn my fighter, Ragder, owns.
Around 15, plus the price for the lock (see PHB).

7. To have a runner take a shoebox across town.
A few coppers.

8. A ferry ride across the river. With a horse.
Between 10 and 20 coppers.

9. My portrait, cause I am pretty.
Between 50 and 400 gold, plus the frame.

10. A live pig. For setting off traps.
3 gold (PHB).
