Level adjustment for dragon disciple

First Post
It's been a while since i started adding dragon disciple classes to my otherwise pure epic sorcerer, and i'm about to avance to it's 10th level now and gain dragon apotheosis. I was quite excited about it untill my DM told me: you are aware that this involves taking the level adjustment just like everything else the half dragon template offers, right? I was quite shocked to hear this, and i must say that i don't think that spending 10 levels for it is worth it if you get a half dragon with level adjustment when you could have chosen that when creating the character makes much sense... What do you think about it?

Your DM is wrong. Anyways once you reach 10th level of Dragon disciple you'll lose all the benefits of the class, since you'll be a half dragon, which is forbidden :D

DD is a wonky class. You spread benefits that include the hald dragon tempalte benefits but through 10 levels. So no LA. Explain to your DM that the DD doesn't really add power to a spellcaster (except you'll know a buckload of spells).

The way I read this prestige class (if I grok correctly), there is no level adjustment because it progressively adds the half-dragon template to your character, a bite at a time, spread out across 10 levels. You've in effect taken 10 levels in order to avoid a +3 LA. But of course, you've gotten some nifty toys along the way in the bargain.

Actually, it's kinda the opposite- you don't know very many spells. In fact, you know as many spells as a Sorcerer 10 levels lower than you. Dragon Disciple doesn't add to your Spells Known, only Spells per Day.

This is right, the DD PrC basically adds the half-dragon template to your character over ten levels, in lieu of the +3 LA for starting witht he template.

If you had to take the +3 LA to your charcter at the end, you would efectively be losing 3 levels. You would then be a 7th level DD and lose the half-dragon apothesis. LA is added when making a new character, there is no mechanic (besides the UA bloodline system, which kind of sucks) for developing an LA in an existing charcter.

As to losing the beneifts of the class since you are now technically not qualified as a half-dragon. There was ad iscussion about that in another recent thread and I think it was retty univarsally agreed that an a feature gained by a class shoulnd't be able to disqualify you from that class.

Also, if it could there would be no epic progression for DD, which WoTC has published.

(this could be redundant because i think iwatt put that part in as a joke, but I don't want you to be confused)
