LG? Might as well play a paladin.

A ways back, when discussing making a character for a campaign, I mentioned making a LG fighter. The other guys said, "You might as well play a paladin, then."

How often do you see someone play a Lawful Good non-paladin? Especially a LG fighter.

I see LG Dwarf fighters fairly regularly. I've seen a handful of LG human fighters. Other than that, I can't say that I've seen much in the way of non-paladin LG characters. Interesting, as I never really thought about it before. I'm sure it's because most people associate LG with the all-too-often seen lawful stupid paladin.

My players don't often play LG unless they're clerics, paladins, monks, samurai or similar classes...

But if you want to play a LG fighter, play a LG fighter, not a paladin. They have quite a few mechanical differences and a LG fighter doesn't have to live up to the paladin code of conduct so if you don't want that, the fighter's for you.

There have been several characters that I've DM'd that have been LG and non-paladin. Only two have been since 3e began, a LG human monk, and a LG dwarven cleric (and in that time I've only had one paladin).
