LG vs. N: Lawful Good Victorious!

For the first time in combat, the archon speaks. "I shall send forth light into the darkness, and it shall fall before me!" It then flys up to 70N110E45Z, and shoots a light ray at 20N100E.

I had been thinking in range increments, not range maximums all this time. After all, -2 really hurts when you've only got a +1. Thanks for the catch.

Heh. The lantern archon's speech turns out to be braver than I thought.

Instead of cautious study, the actions change to teleport to 20N100E15Z and *then* blast 20N100E0Z.

Round 96: The archon teleports in the darkness. It sees nothing but shadows.

Round 97: The archon fires the ray, but has no idea if it hit or missed. There is no reaction.

The archon pops up to 20N100E45H, checks to see if the center has moved (and to where), then drops to 25N110E0H, where it briefly lands and lays a Continual Flame "egg".

Round 98: The top of the sphere seems to have shifted 10 feet to the west. The continual flame spell has no effect. When the archon goes down to the ground, it sees a small cat-like creature, shaking and hiding, at 20N90E.

The archon takes pity on the poor kitty, and says (in the kitty's language) - "Flee. I have no wish to hurt you, though I will if necessary. Flee, and save your life." (That's another intimidate check.) As he is speaking, the archon moves to 20N80E0H. Mentally, the archon prepares itself for what will probably be necessary - a bolt of light into the darkness-cat.

Sorry to thread crash, but doesn't the intimidate check result in a draw since it takes 1 minute to perform?

GL's doing an intimidate in combat, which will not get the results he desires unless there is an RP consideration in the mind of his opponent. He thought it worked against the horse, so why not the cat?
