Libris Mortis Cover

WotC have posted several wallpapers from Libris Mortis, including the cover (warning: this is the 1280x960 version).

Now, I like this style of art... a bit of impressionism mixed with other styles... but NOT on my RPG books. This will look terrible next to the Draconomicon. Sadly, it seems that Codex Anathema will follow this art direction rather than that of Draconomicon. Ugh.

I could take it or leave on another piece, but I want hard edges and smooth brushstroke on my RPG books, thanks. (Or whatever you say in drawing. Not an art major here.)

Funny. I'm exactly the opposite. I hate impressionism and similar styles. Monet's work would be more likely to line my cat's box than hang on my wall. Oddly, I rather like the picture for the book.

The only theory I have for that is that it fits the notion that the book was written or transcribed by a sage of some sort. The information inside is good, but the sage was merely a passible artist.

Either that, or the scene being drawn is just too horrible to accurately represent.

I'm not digging the cover. Draconomicon's cover was like the Herbal Essences shampoo of RPG covers...had me squirming and making funny noises (in a good way).

However, what's most important to me is the juicy nut-meat that's inside the shell. If it's half as tasty as Draconomicon's delicious feast of info was, I'll be happy.

Well, you can start by putting banknotes to line your cat's box. Because if I owned expensive paintings I don't like, I would sell them for good money, not trash them!

True. I was talking about in a price vaccuum, and trying to give context for my surprise that I liked the cover art. I'm perfectly happy to sell something that I wouldn't use if someone else finds value in it -- so long as they aren't getting hurt, etc.

Art is probably the most subjective value thing I can think of. A lot of Monet looks like a seven-year old's scrawl to me, but a enough people like it.

Icky. I don't like it...especially considering this is a book meant to sit next to Lockwood's beautiful Draconomicon....

Oh, well...
