I really like the Hooded template. Really. I can seewhy you might not like it but I do :)

The photostictch creature looks half drawn as well. I should be hissing though, much cooler.

Does it look like a Photoshop job from actual cat pictures, rather than a painting, in your opinion, too?

That would be an interesting precedent. Except this (in)famous Valar Press book, D&D and d20 at large haven't used modified photos to illustrate books. (It's usually kinda hard to find real-life things that could look like convincing balors...) Wonder if we'll see more of the same style.

Looks completely drawn to me. It's just done is a realistic style is all.

Yup. As soon as I read about this one, my epic-level necromancer-fop decided to raize all the other temples in his city and devote it entirely to Evening Glory.

And his construct-daughter just smiled.
Well if you mean Nerull or Wee Jas, I don't care. But NO ONE does that to Orcus man. Otherwise it's Rappan Athuk time for you! :p ;)

Yep. Well no one said they didn't think of Eberron while writing this up...

That said, there'd better DARN well be more Orcus in this book than there was in BoVD!!!

The feats look cool. The rest was underwhelming. I want a preview for an undead book to show me a creepy PrC, not some laser-blasting goody-goody. Hooded Pupil seems like it's one of those ideas for adding the strengths of a creature type to other monsters without importing its disadvantages, with an actual concept being tacked-on somewhere in the editing room. And as for the fossilized template, a souped-up skeleton doesn't seem all that inspired a concept.

EDIT--Also can't say I think the wight monster class represents anything other than a waste of space. In fact, I suspect that will be the case with all of the monster classes. WotC really needs to wake up and realize that their level adjustments tend to be too harsh. An 8th-level character with the hit points, skill points, BAB, and saving throws of 4 HD creature? It'll have trouble staying alive, much less pulling its weight.

Not a chance in hell that's a photoshop image. It will be more obvious when you see a full resolution print image. Right now our low screen resolution is helping to camouflage the effect that the illustrator uses to paint the fur.
