Lich Queen's Beloved

Hi Everyone.

I am looking for this adventure. I understand it was in Dungeon #100. Was that the only issue it was it, or was it serialized? Also did it have other adventures that tied into it? Thanks.

Also, I have heard talk about something called "Adventure Path" or something like that with linked adventures in Dungeon. Could someone explain that to me?

Thanks.

This wasn't a series, but there was a companion issue of Dragon Magazine IIRC that came out the same month. There's also a web enhancment, and I think there's a web expansion you can also purchase as a PDF from paizo.com.

The Adventure Path was a series of linked adventures that ran in Dungeon for several months (I don't think it was every month). It was based around a city called Cauldron. Paizo is releasing this adventure path as a hardcover book this summer, with additional material.

Lich-Queen's Beloved is indeed in issue 100 of Dungeon, and was not serialized.

It's actually a mini-game of playing an invasion of material planes on the side of the Githyanki (the Polyhedron side of the magazine) and a module for very high level (not quite epic) play to go into the Lich Queen's citadel and kill her to end the invasion.

It was also tied to that issue of Dragon, with material about handling invasions from other planes.

The Adventure Paths are a different set of adventures, and I'm sure someone else has answered about them by the time I post this.

I have a bunch of players about to finish The City of the Spider Queen and I am looking for something for them to do after.

Yep, you can buy & download an expanded tratement of the city / citadel of the Lich Queen from Paizo's website. It's pretty nice, if you want to adventure at the city before the assassination strike proper.

It was roughly every other month (may be actually every other month, but I lost track by the end). I've run about half of it and really enjoyed them, except the first one had WAY too big of dungeons for a level 1/2 dungeon crawl.

Then the assault on her fortress would be doable. I would recommend picking up both Dungeon 100 and that month's Dragon though, to build up the trouble (full fledged planar invasion) before the players take on the Lich Queen herself.

Do you know what issue of Dragon that was?

COTSQ has lasted a couple of months and I am looking for something that long term.

That module was also the source of a great joke for our party...

[sblock]The lich queen has DR X / Magic Blunt.

Now... we ran back to the prime looking for magic blunts. We found the magic pipeweed, and some other magical infusions, but no actual magic blunts.

We tried going into the ugliest parts of Skullport, checking out the goblin gangsters and halfling homeboys to see if they had any magic blunts, but they were smoking old fashioned mundane blunts, although we did find a dealer who had a collection of masterwork blunts, very fine pipeweed indeed.[/sblock]

Not off-hand, I seem to have misplaced mine. It can be that long-term if you run it that way (the invasion, and the political fall-out of a githyanki invasion), but it suits itself better for 2 sessions to kill the lich queen, and 2-4 sessions for the invasion. The invasion is not fully statted out and run as an adventure, but as a bunch of DM advice for how they will run the invasion and how to use it in your game world.
