Light Sabres and Blasters

I'm slightly curious about the aspect of the star wars system that allows the jedi to deflect blaster attacks. While I know the force powers are a combination of feats and skills, how does the system handle the deflection of blaster bolts?

Cool, but what's the actual mechanic? Is it a skill check; or a reflex save like Deflect Arrows in DnD?

My flatmate is playing with character concepts for d20 Star Wars, but isn't entirely sold on playing a blaster-oriented character without knowing how he'll go against sith jedi he's been warned are coming up in the campaign.

Well the basic mechanics----

First if you roll to hit a jedi and beat there defense you hit the Jedi with the blaster. Do damage. A jedi gets bonuses to his defense depending on level AND has an ignited light saber.

Now if you miss a jedi by like 5 or something like that they get a chance to deflect the blaster bolt back at someone. They roll to attack with some minuses. Now doing this uses up an attack the jedi gets on his next turn.

If your worried about those crazy sith deflecting all kinds of blaster bolts back at you, shoot him a slugthrower (ie Bullets). You can't deflect those back.

Deflect (defence) gives you a dodge bonus to Defence if you sacrifice a move action in your next turn.

Deflect (attack) lets you send a ranged attack back at the attacker if he misses you by 5 or less; you have a penalty to your counterattack.

Read the class descriptions in the Revised Core Rules for all the information.

Hero's Guide says you can deflect bullets; page 135 has a list of stuff you can and can't deflect.

All you need to know is that lightsabres aren't as clumsy or random as blasters. They're elegant weapons of a more civilized age. I mean, doesn't that explain it all? :)

Is there any limit to the size/intensity of blaster bolt a jedi can deflect?

(Mind you, I'm coming from the perspective of someone who's never had a chance to play d20 SW)

Because with those snooty jedi calling your weapons 'clumsy and random,' you may as well go all out and get the biggest, ugliest sapient-portable cannon in the galaxy. :D

A Jedi can deflect any blaster bolt from a man-portable weapon from blaster pistol to heavy weapon categories. Vehicle- and starship-mounted weapons are considered too large; it would be like trying to deflect a tank shell with a broadsword.

Funny; I could swear that, in Dark Empire, Luke deflects the bolts from an AT-AT.

Though, granted, there's a certain point where it would strain credibility. "Okay, so you're going to stand on Alderaan and bounce the Death Star Superlaser back at it? Okay, make your roll..." But I can easily see bouncing back starfighter- or vehicle-scale blaster bolts.

That's funny, seeing as the blaster bolts from a starship are wider the lightsaber attempting to deflect it. Perhaps a small portion of the bolt could be deflected, but the rest... :p
