Light Sources - Best Bang for Your Buck

Gloves of the Starry Sky out of MIC allow you to cast magic missle 3/day as well as emit a Light spell that can be turned on or off. Dont have the book with me for the cost, think its 2000gp.

Cheers,

A downside to using Continual Flame as your light source is when you get hit by a dispel magic your light could go out permanently. An everburning torch as a magic item will be unaffected unless specifically targetted in which case it is only out for a few rounds.

From the rules:
"Everburning Torch
This otherwise normal torch has a continual flame spell cast upon it."

I don't think Everburning Torch is listed as a wondrous item any more, is it? It's just listed under "Special Substances And Items" in the PHB: "This otherwise normal torch has a continual flame spell cast upon it."

It'll get zapped by a Dispel Magic just like any other Continual Flame spell.

I prefer lockets for my continual flame targets. It doesn't light behind you very well, but that's not too big of a deal, and it has the benefit of being closable so you can instantly squelch your light if you need to.

So other than continual flame, and binding a creature to cast it for you, and lighting things on fire, what magic items are people aware of that are relatively inexpensive and have a good radius and continual effect.

More specifically, lets start with things that give off more light than a torch. So, let's say things that have a bright light radius of 60' and shadow of another 60'.

Everburning torch costs 110gp for 20ft/shadow another 20ft (so 20/40). Not slotless, but in theory you could pay a spellcaster to cast it on your helmet, weapon, or other piece of attached equipment and try and make it slotless.

I'm always a fan of Continual Flame headbands. Not slotless, but bada   .

The look on your DM's face when you sell 10,000 everburning torches? Priceless (but nets you 548,820 gp, selling for half and hiring everything at full market value).

PC swamps the market, gets left with 9900 everburning torches in stock (a small warehouse full) or price drops below the cost to produce, PC gets pissed at DM, doesn't try to do anything like that again. Priceless.
