Limiting magic item creation without XP.

I guess I'm pretty much alone here when I say that I don't hate the experience point cost but the gp cost.

IMC, players only have to pay the xp cost, but need special components to make their items. I.e. scales of a red dragon to make an armor of command or scales of a behir to give that armor electricity resistance.

Sound of snow. I found me a new component.

How about altering the XP costs-

Clerics, Wizards and their equivalents can make any item in the book for the published cost. If they take the appropriate Item Creation Feat, the XP cost for THAT KIND of magic item drops 50%. A Wizard could take any Item Creation Feat more than once, resulting in a further 50% XP cost drop, rounded up.

Sorcerers, Druids and their equivalents would gain a similar benefit, but could not take any Item Creation Feat more than once.

Other spellcasters (for whom spells are not a major class feature- bards, rangers, paladins, etc), would operate under the original system, and could not take an Item Creation Feat more than once.

In effect, just like the various warrior classes start with all of the weapon familiarities, the major spellcasters would get "item creation familiarity."
