Line of Effect

English aint my native and i have some trouble understanding Line of Effect..

So.. if i draw an line from my square to my target and it gets blocked by anything, i dont have an line of effect, but i can have line of sight..

But if i see an orc hiding behind an rock i do have line of sight, but no line of effect because of the rock.. so now i cant attack the orc..

Is this right, or can someone explain?

Line of sight is not blocked by invisible walls/glass. Line of effect does.
You can see but can't pass through.

Line of sight gets blocked by fog/darkness/creature is invisible. Line of effect doesn't.
You can't see but can pass through.

An orc hiding behind a huge rock that you can't see has total cover and therefore there is no line of sight or effect (You may know he is behind the rock though).

An orc hiding behind a smaller rock just has cover and you have both line of effect and line of sight to it.

As far as i understand the rules anyhow.

It's worded in a confusing way even if English is your first language. They've gone and phrased them both in terms of negatives, and done it differently in both paragraphs. Untangled, it says:

If it's possible to draw any line from any part of your square to any part of the target square without going through something opaque (a wall, a thick curtain, a cloud of fog), you have line of sight.

If it's possible to draw any line from any part of your square to any part of the target square without going through something solid (a rock, a wall of transparent magical force), you have line of effect.

They're exactly the same, except for what blocks them.
