ERIKSON DOESN'T HAVE A US PUBLISHER?!?!?!????

Yes, much my reaction. However, a friend of mine met the head of marketing for his publisher in Canada and apparently Mr. Erikson is making heaps of cash even without that. Which is pretty much unheard of for an English-language writer.

Not bad for an archaeologist in Winnipeg.

Heh, if it does not interest him to expand his reader base- then it won't bother me much to ignore him.

Another one no one seems to have mentioned

Kanthyn Kurtz's Deryni Novels -- there are about 11 books out there now. Her stuff was a very interesting mix of history & fantasy, with a good sense of politics and a magic system that was primarily psionic in nature. And Catholicism -- it would be a nice break from polytheistic gaming.

And put me on the list of people who would like to see the black company given the royal D20 treatment.

I don't know the details of the situation, but it is possible that he hasn't actually CHOSEN not to have a US publisher but that instead no publishers in the US have CHOSEN to carry his works. That's actually the way it works most of the time.

I haven't exactly CHOSEN to never be published -- I just haven't come across a publisher willing to publish my work.

Black Company
Keltiade
Strasse der Götter/Street of the Gods
Kampf um Rom from Felix Dahn
Morgaine Saga
Mythor German pulp fantasy serie.
Record of Lodoss war.

Belgariade and the Malloreon Saga.

Conan is GURPS, and really I see no way to transform d&d magic to it, OTOH i thought the sam for wot.
Bran Mak Mor and Cormac mac Art in GURPS or fudge
Ice & Fire in GURPS, these book breath GURPS,
Deryni is in working for fudge, and what Jennifer Brin had did on her homepage for homebrew impresses me, greatest.
I hope I will see the first and get them at the fair essen.

Amber should IMHO a must read for every GM, i would like to play it but i`mnot able to master it.

Re: Cool Campaigns Based on Books

My favorite was the Feist Riftwar/Serpentwar settings. Its a great story. Apparently it was actually a game based 500 years after the original series. The owners of the game system maintain a website, however it hasn't been maintained for 10 months. Its at http://www.midkemia.com sadly there is no info on going to d20/D&D. With enough fan input .... that could change.

Well, on this front I spoke to Steve Abrams about this late last year (I was getting copies of the last Midkemia Press items they have for sale) and he mentioned that he and Ray had been approached several times about licensing it as a d20 setting but in the end turned it down as they would much rather see it published using the system they used back in the day. One of the hickups to this is getting any non-d20 game published these days. Thus it seems to be on the back-burner along with several other projects (like the Atlas/Encyclopedia of Midkemia).

I'd love to see New Thieves World RPG suppliments. I have the box set that was released, and my roommate has a copy of the boxset as well as all the modules. We've played two thieves World Campaigns, one in 2nd edition one in third edition. Both were great.

Mercedes Lacky Valdamar would be good, but unless she's changed her mind this would never happen. She came out a few years ago and said that she wopuld never do it and even had the few Valdamr RPG sites that were around closed down.

Harry Potter could be fun. Remove the main characters and base the RPG in Hogwarts and have some great rules for children, a unique magic system, and rules for learning.

Who ever mentioned Slaughter House Five, that would be interesting. However, to have that happen with a group of characters would be hell on a DM. I could see this as a solo campaign style though.

Short list:
Brust's Jhereg books - I have only read the first two so far, but they are great. The smoldering racial frictions, the frequent use of resurrection and teleport magic, the division between witchcraft and sorcery, dragon familiars, need I go on? This is how a high magic world should work.

JMS's Babylon 5/Crusade - An ancient army of light, order vs. chaos, timeless races manipulating the younger ones, evil telepaths that look just like us, need I go on? The last attempt was too limited, focused just on Earthforce, was set in a relatively uneventful time, and then it burned up quick. It never had a chance. There is so much more that is crying to be explored. Set the game in the time of Crusade and the Earth plague, give me stats for all of the major races, let me play a Ranger or a starship commander and this game will be incredible.

I dont think think the B5 game was limited, the problem was that it stopped being published before anything hardly came out. I'm still annoyed that supplements that were written like the 'League' sourcebook didnt get released (even in PDF format).

Admittedly I was only buying the game to pillage and use as a setting for a SpaceMaster game...

I would hope that any new game does provide guidelines for setting games in a variety of temporal choices.
