Besides, it's not like the artists listen to anyone anyways, based on the tiefling art vs. descriptions.
So very true. I'm not even an artist and I could do a better job choosing a great set of art and directing real artists in the creation of the needed art resources.

2 art directions I HATE.

1; Tieflings horns come directly from their brow, making it expressionless in most cases.

2: Eldrin Have no eyes. Just colored whites. Sure it makes them mysteries, But so was strider.

In terms of the dragon born I would have combined them with tiefling, giving the dragonborn horns and a tail.

my favorite tiefling is on page 16. he has so much style. They did a good job cheating on the brow ridge too, carving it in specific way to give him expression.

What specifically is it you find so offensive about the artwork?

Say what you will about "anime" influences, but the korean games have got style down pat and don't try to make putty-face bland craptastical bumpmap textured models.
So you're saying that you don't like the art?

You're saying that you don't like it cause it's not anime enough?

Pretty much all the character artwork. No consistency, no exciting visual style. It's bland, mushy, and has no "texture". There's little that jumps out and grabs me. Just look at the elf pic in the race section. Those elves are fugly. Especially the male. Proportions in much of the artwork is also very much off kilter.

It's just bad art all around. I could find dozens of samples from deviantart that would be far better than what's in the book.

No, I was merely using the consistent visual style that many anime influenced korean games as an example of good art direction.

The art I've seen doesn't have much charm to it in my eyes. Too much of a pastel crayon look, and the actual shapes of things... ehhh...

It's not terrible, but it's not something I'd hang on a wall.

I find the ratio of bad art to good art to be roughly consistent with what it has been in most editions to date. I much prefer it to the heavy dungeonpunk look of 3rd, and I'm glad that I haven't seen a chain-mail bikini.

The landscapes, however, kick ass and take names.

Fugly?...

Interesting term. Anyways, I haven't seen the Core rulebook art, but I must say, the art that i've seen so far from WotC, I find asthetically pleasing. The picture of the Dragonborn Cleric (maybe Paladin?) from the Rituals excerpt struck me as so well done that I immediately e-mailed it to a friend of mine. The texture seemed fine to me, maybe actually exceeding that of 3E art (not all, mind you). It makes me think of one thing......D&D. :)
