Logic behind sales of "Expedition to Castle Greyhawk"?

Did you read this reply Umbran? If this isn't the old shell game I don't know what is. The poster he is replying brought up some excellent points which were summarily dismissed with yes we do support Greyhawk BS. If discussions about setting support for Greyhawk have usually been on the table for the last 8 years how does nothing get done in that time? Its hard to imagine a meeting that takes place once a month or even once a quarter for eight years that Greyhawk was brought up everytime and yet got nothing published. Sorry, but I am not buying that bridge in Florida. I for one am glad someone had the stones to call BULLCRAP when they read it.

So do you really think Scott is just lying? You can't imagine it to be possible that discussions of various settings are brought up all the time?

If you want, I can try and help Scott explain how these things go and why decisions are made the way they are, but if you're just upset and your goal is to find an excuse to cry "bullcrap" at the top of your lungs, this one is a good as any.

Ok well I guess coming on here and trying to be honest is a waste of time. Next time I post about topics of internal meetings I'll be sure to lie since telling the truth seems to be getting nowhere.

Good times, thanks for the contribution....not. :(

BTW I have worked on the brand for 18 months so although the history of what has happened in the past is not lost on me 1) I am not my predecessor 2) things change 3) I don't make it a habbit of BSing people.

Rest assured, most of us appreciate your presence here, and your honesty. Please don't let a shrieking and ill-mannered minority chase you away.

Agreed. Scott (besides having a great name) seems to have been as open as he is allowed to be. Better than hearing nothing about what's going on. And it's nice to have a regular WotC presence again.

QFT

And as to Greyhawk sales taking away from FR sales... well...

WotC could sell me GH books. But no FR books. SO they might sell me MORE than they do now. If it's a.) good and b.) not Adventures.

In my experience, there is a strong vocal presence in all of the hobby gaming communities I see that demonizes a company they feel have wronged them (and this isn't limited to online communities). While I can't speak to that poster, I'm sure that there are people out there convinced that every WotC employee is lying when it doesn't fit in with their pet theory of something.

I admit, I'd be more likely to buy a given Greyhawk book than a given FR book. However, the number would be so slight I'm sure I'd be outnumbered by the gamers who switch from FR to Greyhawk and also by those who collect both, but don't fully support either setting.

I think that it is hard to believe that people at WotC have been trying for 8 years to get Greyhawk published without a single sucess. Since Scott was summarily dismissing a post which specifically address the eight year absence yet he has only been with the brand for 1.5 years clearly there is a disconnect. A more straighforward answer might have been for the last 1.5 years we have talked about bringing back greyhawk. But I think when one desires to dismiss the postings of another it is easier to Make broad sweeping your wrong kind of statements or your just looking for an excuse to shriek statements for that matter.

*Edited for early morning typos.

If the 'Expedition to...' mega-adventure sells (and I'm sure it will), the next best move for WotC would be a re-issue of the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer. It would be an as-is (perhaps with any 3.5isms needed, but that could be covered in an on-line conversion if required) which would help pick up the people who have come in from Dungeon's AP's and RPGA events.

After that. I'd suggest any published adventures WotC put out should be by default set in Greyhawk, with conversion notes included for FR and Eberron (and online for Dragonlance, Ravenloft, etc.). Locations, deities, NPC's should be Greyhawk-based - or, if necessary, convertable as per 'Age of Worms.'

Just my two penn'orth. YMMV.

And thanks to Scott and Erik for their posts, very interesting reading. It's always good to hear things from the horse's mouth.

Not that you are horses. Obviously.

I would suggest a different model: Make the Core Game totally generic, and then switch settings every couple of years. Which means: 2007 - 2010 Eberron / 2010 - 2013 4e and Greyhawk / 2013 - 2015 4.5e and FR. And so on.

Concentrate on one setting at a time.

PS: If someone would ask me, i would prefer: 2007 - 2010 Eberron / 2010 - 2013 4e and Planescape / 2013 - 2015 4.5e and Dark Sun. Will not happen. Would be fun. :)
