If we talk straight up, they really really dislike each other, went hand to hand, caveman wins baecause that is the nature of man and he lives to surrvive.

Now, if you give them X amount of time, still the caveman wins, skills that we do not really think about comes into play, making fire, creating weapons, living off the land, sure the astronaut is trained in some of the same things but edge is cavemans.

Okay, some time loop thing, Astronaut wins because he pulls gun and shoots caveman.

I'd go with the astronaut. After all, they have by their very nature access to orbital bombardment.

In a battle of where neither has any [fashioned] weapons, it might be equally matched. Astronauts need to be in top physical and mental shape. Cavemen have a better chance in pure physical combat. But, as a caveman would be up against a modern astronaut it would not be a battle based solely on physical prowess. Cavemen equate to more physical power, but the modern day astronaut has more intelligence. By using intelligence, I believe that the astronaut has the upper hand.

If you are referring to the civilian scientists, yes. But the pilots and commanders tend to be from military background (usually Air Force and Navy aviators; not sure if Marine aviators are chosen).
