As a Londoner, I'm really unhappy that London has won. :]

Not only does it mean more vermin, read "tourists", it also means higher taxes for the next 20 years to pay for it.

I'm excited to hear the olympics are going to be in London.. if only because I know The Clash's london calling is going to be on ton of advertisements now. Yeah!!

I was hoping for Moscow, personally. I guess that's the latent communist in me speaking. London is cool too.

I have mixed feelings about this as a Londoner -
antis - more taxes, more tourists

pros - regeneration stuff in the area where I live, huge promotional opportunity for my running club

Congratulations to the other 4 final cities who made it to the last voting stage as all the bids were credible.

Absolutely. I live in France (and in Paris, and I am glad it didn't get it ;) ), and my parents in the Alps, so I know better about this: A few years ago the Winter Olympic Games were held in the French Alps. The autorities, media, etc. said it was a great success, as all the seats had been sold out. The truth is that two third of the seats / places / tickets / whatever, had been bought by the local government, to mask the failure. Then, due to the incredible amount of taxes needed to pay for all the work, buildings, etc., many towns and villages went almost bankrupt.

Of course, all of these financial expanses will happen in 2012, when we will also have entered the worldwide oil crisis...

Well better you than us (Tampa). We had a small group trying to get the olympics here in Tampa.

Good Luck UK, you're going to need it.
