Good call

Please post the results of the upcoming fight, I`m sure I`m not the only one hoping it works out well. I admit, it`s not the solution I`d pursue in my own campaign, but I think I have a more sympathetic DM.

As long as we`re in Rant Mode: anyone else hate it when people tell you "My alignment is Chaotic Insane!" and cackle like some B-Movie mad scientist? These are characters with decent Wis and Int scores who charge into every room, set off every trap (they`re the Rogue!), and basically ruin any chance at tactics the party might have. My LN Cleric of the Red Knight finally let him run off to his death--we were more effective without him.

Its about an hour before T-off and we are preped and ready to go. There were a few more things I was going to tell people about this guy. He laughs hysterically when a character dies, and gets pissed off if people do well in his games. He disallows magic, absolutly no magic works in his world because magic is too creative and he cant handle it. A character (who he had made a vampire spawn, under the control of the character) picked up a child by the back of his shirt. The kid kicked the vampire in the groin, and the kid got a critical and negated the DR because the guy thought it was funny. Also, he disallowed an attack from a readied action from an charge with a spear ,because it was powergaming

hope you get to see this at some point, i have had to deal with the same type of situation a couple of times and have found that the following works quite well.

if he does something that bothers you, take it out on his character. your character has enough in game reasons to really dislike his character. you have stated that his character is equally pompus of an ass as he is, have your character get irritated with him and if nessisary scream at him next time the jerk's character is rude to yours. say everything you want to say but do it in character, he wants RP? give it to him. it's much easyer to say things in this manner without everyone taking it personally, also it relieves stress quite well. sometimes it escalates to violence but as long as all you do is roll dice, that's fine. if what you say is entirely acurate, he/his character are not exactly premoting party togetherness and he deserves whatever he gets.

We havent had a chance yet to kill him. The DM said though that he will not stop us. What our plan was that I tell him:

"A man named Balsina tried to hire me as an assasin to kill a man named Atison. I know that Balsina killed Atison's parents and took thier land. I asked for half upfront, which he gave me, but I had no intention of killing Atison. Then unexpectedly Atison attacked Balsina, so I held him with a spell and wanted to get the whole story. Another man took Atison to a safe haven, and I let Balsina go."

This is what happened, but I know him. He turns on the party anychance he gets. A paladin of mine was broken out of jail, (for a crime he was wrongly accused of) and I made preparations so that during my trial the guilty party would be weeded out. I then turned myself back in. This guy tells the authorities where the other players are and has them arested because they were involved.

-Anyway, back to current events, we would, after he tried to "bring us to justice" my cohort would hold monster on him, (DC 27) and we would coup de gras.

I would bitch him out in roleplaying, but since he cant see anyone elses ways of roleplaying it would work. He hasn't learned much about how actual D&D works. He would beleive that he roleplayed the best and everyone else sucked.

Sorry about the posts but I have had to put up with him for 2 years of playing, and he hasnt learned a thing. He still doesn't know how to make a character without the generator. He doesn't know how skills work, how duel wielding works, or even the rules for multiclassing. He only knows the absolute basics, the things you learn in the first month of play, and he has been playing 3rd ed for 2 years.

Also- What would you do in situation like this? (BTW-every thing in here is the truth, there is no bending of the truth, and the things I've stated are only half of the problem)

let me try to clear it up a bit

i'm Varius' and valicor's DM. I'm kind of new at it but I try to keep my game fair and fun. LN (the roleplaying guy) is a hard case to work with since he has a lot of trouble accepting the situation when it doesn,t go his way. The guy can't respect the intelligence of the other players, but worst of all he LOVES anything upper class. He thinks that everyone is less than him because he is the son of a duke, and because of his arrogance. his friendship with Varius and Valicor is almost destroyed. If LN saw a noble beating a peasent child, he would probably join in just because he was a noble. What's worse is that he is making me a king in his game. I don't want to be a king and I certaintly don't want him to thing that making me a king, opens the way towards him being a king in my game. I really don't care if he becomes one, but he will have to work for it. I'm not going to give it to him. When I started my game I said that it would be half roleplaying and half fighting. No one seemed to have a problem with this, but two days ago, LN wanted me to split my game into one for Varius and Valicor (which would be the fighting one), and one for him (the roleplaying one), his best friend (who he always manages to have a strong personal history with. ie. brothers, old friends, etc.), and a guy he knows at work (who I have never met, but apparently is a "great roleplayer"). To this I say NO! First of all a game with three players is bad enough, but two is really pushing it. Second of all, I know that eventually he would try to get me to drop the other game. Third of all, I would get horribly bored with both of these campaigns. And finally, who the hell does he think he is, trying to segregate my game to suit his tastes.

Nobody's perfect and all players have their problems. Valicor is a bit preoccupied with destroying LN, which I really don't care about, but I know it will cause problems out of game. And Varius is driven by the lust for power. Many times he has told me that he can't make a character that is as powerful as the rest of the party. This is a little unsettling, because it has caused a few of my players to feel weak and powerless.

I think it has been said before, but I only want everyone to have fun at my game. The players can do whatever they want provided that they have the power to do so, and that they can handle any alignment penalties that may apply. It's probably true that I am a push over DM, but I really don't think that that is a problem because 1) this applies to everyone of my players. 2) if they become really powerful I just increase the challenge or attack from a new angle (intellectual, trapwise, etc.). 3) When it comes down to an important plot-based event, they play it my way (which means that I won't surrender information or hint to solutions). I really don't want to lose players or break friendships, so if someone has a good idea for me please post it. And I'm sorry if I made LN look like the bad guy, he's a good friend of mine, and everyone has a bad habit.

(psst...Shananofran, his nickname was LG)

I would say I like a strong character, but lust for power? Ill show you lust for power!

Just curious Shin, but did you check out my link for that Pr-class I told Valicor about? I'm always open to opinions. :)
