let me try to clear it up a bit
i'm Varius' and valicor's DM. I'm kind of new at it but I try to keep my game fair and fun. LN (the roleplaying guy) is a hard case to work with since he has a lot of trouble accepting the situation when it doesn,t go his way. The guy can't respect the intelligence of the other players, but worst of all he LOVES anything upper class. He thinks that everyone is less than him because he is the son of a duke, and because of his arrogance. his friendship with Varius and Valicor is almost destroyed. If LN saw a noble beating a peasent child, he would probably join in just because he was a noble. What's worse is that he is making me a king in his game. I don't want to be a king and I certaintly don't want him to thing that making me a king, opens the way towards him being a king in my game. I really don't care if he becomes one, but he will have to work for it. I'm not going to give it to him. When I started my game I said that it would be half roleplaying and half fighting. No one seemed to have a problem with this, but two days ago, LN wanted me to split my game into one for Varius and Valicor (which would be the fighting one), and one for him (the roleplaying one), his best friend (who he always manages to have a strong personal history with. ie. brothers, old friends, etc.), and a guy he knows at work (who I have never met, but apparently is a "great roleplayer"). To this I say NO! First of all a game with three players is bad enough, but two is really pushing it. Second of all, I know that eventually he would try to get me to drop the other game. Third of all, I would get horribly bored with both of these campaigns. And finally, who the hell does he think he is, trying to segregate my game to suit his tastes.
Nobody's perfect and all players have their problems. Valicor is a bit preoccupied with destroying LN, which I really don't care about, but I know it will cause problems out of game. And Varius is driven by the lust for power. Many times he has told me that he can't make a character that is as powerful as the rest of the party. This is a little unsettling, because it has caused a few of my players to feel weak and powerless.
I think it has been said before, but I only want everyone to have fun at my game. The players can do whatever they want provided that they have the power to do so, and that they can handle any alignment penalties that may apply. It's probably true that I am a push over DM, but I really don't think that that is a problem because 1) this applies to everyone of my players. 2) if they become really powerful I just increase the challenge or attack from a new angle (intellectual, trapwise, etc.). 3) When it comes down to an important plot-based event, they play it my way (which means that I won't surrender information or hint to solutions). I really don't want to lose players or break friendships, so if someone has a good idea for me please post it. And I'm sorry if I made LN look like the bad guy, he's a good friend of mine, and everyone has a bad habit.
