Looking For A Campaign Setting

Hey folks! I'm playing DnD in about the 3.25 version. Still getting the 3.5 books but I did download all that stuff from the SRD.

Our group is looking for a new campaign setting. We were kinda dissapointed inthe FR setting. Very few adventures. Seemed like you have to have really high ability scores, better than average magic, and moderately high level just to survive. And wierdly, they have allthose psionic creatures with no way to work them into the game.

The other one everyone talks about is Eberron, which seems to be like FR on PCP. :(

We usually try to stick to WotC products for consistency. Some of the third party stuff is just out there and unbalancing.

We're looking for a medium to low magic / power campaign setting.I would like for modules / adventures set in the world (I just don't have the time). Serries of adventures would be even better. The PC's would like a setting where psionics is included not something the DM has to add in.

What do you think might meet our needs? Doesn't necessarily have to be WotC if it doesn't change the rules to much or require many source books to be purchased.

Thanx, we appreciate any suggestions you can give us. :)

Ebberon, Midnight and Iron Kingdoms are the 3 D20 settings that I strongly recommend.

But given your criteria, and despite your misgivings I would still suggest taking a look at Eberron.

The setting is designed to support a number of different styles of play (std D&D, pulp-noir, swashbuckling fantasy etc) and has a good amount of both fan and company support. Psionics is an intregal part of the setting and almost all WotC adventures & supplements can find a home on Khorvaire.

There is a consistency to the setting that makes it definately not FR on PCP's.

I suggest Scarred Lands for a unique setting with lots of flavor, and needs only be as complex as you want it to be. It is available quite inexpensively as well from the White Wolf website (by like 1/2 price or better), or at number of auction sites (I got almost the entire collection for about $100).

Good Luck.

I also would suggest Eberron. I'm a long time Realms DM, and I just started my first Eberron campaign, and we are enjoying it immensely. I am just using the Wotc published adventures (from the ECS and then the one offs they publish) which is a departure for me (usually I write my own) but my whole group definately seems to enjoy it. Also, if you are looking for adventures outside of the published arc, Dungeon has done a bunch, many of them pretty good.

Okay, this is odd... Is everyone just perverse or what? The OP specifically stated that they had listened to other people talk about Eberron and had determined that it wasn't the desired style. So naturally, the fans of Eberron pipe in to suggest that the group use Eberron!!! :? Huh?

I've nothing against Eberron, but the OP wants a low magic / low power setting, which Eberron is not intended to be. Sure, with some work ANY setting can be played in any style you wish, but the OP ALSO stated up front that preparation time was a factor, hence the desire for a setting with loads of published adventures for it. If the GM doesn't have time to prep adventures, then there certainly isn't time to tailor a published setting to an alternate power level!!

C'mon everyone, if you can't be helpful, don't be a hinderance. So, you love Eberron, good for you, but don't suggest it cause it's your fav. Especially when doing so contradicts the OP's request. Maybe I'm being too crabby here, but it kinda cheesed me off that the OP basically says, "I don't want FR or Eberron, any suggestions?" and people then post what amounts to, "You should play Eberron anyway, even if it isn't what you want." :(

It's not unhelpful to suggest giving Eberron a try. His statement only said that people are talking about it, and to him it "seems like FR on PCP."

We don't really know if he's had a chance to flip through the setting book, look at its published adventures, etc. If he did, he would know for sure whether it was (in his opinion) FR on PCP.

Why don't we let the original poster decide if a particular piece of advice is helpful or not? The original poster can easily ignore this advice if it's not.

With the information you have given I would put a vote into Kalamar as well, I have very little experience with it but when I did it was fun and sounds like it fits your criteria.

I realy enjoy Iron Kingdoms myself and Scarred Lands is nice, but neither supports psionics but to be honest I think adding psionics to Iron Kingdoms would work very well.

Now since you said no Eberron I will not say anything on that subject except that I felt the same, as far as FR on pcp goes, untile I read Keith Bakers first novel and saw the world through the desingners eyes. The novel changed my mind alot more then others telling me how much they liked it or disliked it.
