Looking for a good starter adventurer involving goblins?

Might I suggest The Raiders of Galath's Roost by Skip Williams? It's hobgoblins instead of goblins - but you can either change that with a simple rewrite or keep it as hobgoblins, as you prefer.

It is designed to start at first and bring the party to third level. I've run it in modified form and its a very decent adventure, some sneaking, puzzle solving, a great bluff scene to penetrate the hobgoblin's lair, nice maps - just an all around great starting adventure. It's set in the FR but you can take out the Zentarim stuff and easily convert it to generic if that is your object.

Lots of plot hooks if you need it to go elsewhere.

Raiders of Galath's Roost appears in Issue #87 of Dungeon and is written by Skip Williams. Skip's writing is kind of dry but his crunch is immaculate and the plot and base layouts always make sense and are internally consistent.

A goblin adventure for third level appeared in Dungeon #119 by Chris West - it is called Unfamiliar Ground. I have not done much more than skim it however.

My recommendation is Galath's Roost though. It's exactly what you are looking for. There are a few other ENWorlders who have run it as well and when it comes up in discussions the consensus is that this one is one of the best starting adventures Dungeon has ever published.

I'm looking for a good starter module involving the mostly human good-aligned PCs going up against goblins. Something fairly generic that I can pop into any campaign world without a lot of effort. Any suggestions? This should be something that takes the group from 1st level and 0 XP to 2nd or 3rd level, if possible.

PCs would likely all be from the same mid-sized town or the surrounding area.

Thanks

Rats - I've got a three-adventure-module (Perils of Pekal) going to press soon with goblins in it, but I doubt you want to wait 4 months or so.... :)

well, with my gaming schedule... that might actually work out (see my post on your kenzer boards about my writing speed!!)

Keep on the Borderlands actually works decently with my concept, as there is a lightly manned keep on the borders of this Duchy that is a few days outside the main town that plays a passing role in the beginning, but becomes more significant later on... but, nearly every veteran gamer knows the Keep of the Borderlands.

Try "Dovedale" in Dungeon #46. Its for levels 1-3 and has a nice mix of bad goblilns and slightly more civilized ones.

There is also module N2, "The Forest Oracle" that features goblins as the main adversaries. For levels 2-4.

Of course both need a little conversion from 2nd Ed. :heh:

The Burning Plague --a 1st level adventure on the WotC website. It has kobolds, but they can easily be changed out for goblins. It's got a nice mix of combat, roleplaying, and traps.
The one problem, though, is the "boss" of the level is a 5th level cleric. So you'll have to change the boss to a 1st level cleric with a nearly depleted wand of animate dead.

Honestly I think Sunless Citidel is perfect for the situation. It fulfills every requirement you've got and if you wanted to continue the adventure path then you could have the PC's be originally from Blasingdel where Forge of Fury starts out.

I've run this module and I think it is pretty darn solid.

I recommend this one as well, since this is what I am currently running for my players. You can just you the adventure as is and call the kobolds goblins instead.

The boss is a 5th level orc cleric, that is infected with the plague, so he is slightly easier to deal with. You could just describe him as a hobgoblin cleric and I think the players would never know.
