looking for a new system

Okay, if you want something different, you might want to look into Savage Worlds. It's definitely multi-genre, and you can still use minis if you want to. If you go to this page, scroll down to "downloads" and pick up the Test Drive Rules 4.0, you can have a look yourself if you like it or not :).

There are settings for many different genres available, like fantasy, dark fantasy, spy genre or pirates. The newest book, though not a new setting, is Deadlands Reloaded. The - not quite so serious - Low Life setting got an ENnie nomination for best interior art this year, btw.

Mini's can still be used in C&C, just like they could be used in 1E and 2E D&D.

OK, I have read some of True 20 now, so I can say that True 20 is 3E D&D lite, and is versatile in the sense that 3E is. You have Modern and Future 3E.

Now there is C&C. I can tell you that the SIEGE engine is so versatile 3 separate C&C CK/DM's came up with rules to run Traveller. One adopted d20 Traveller, two of us adopted it to the d20 SIEGE mechanic but kept it SKILLS based. I did it in under two hours! i don't know how long it took Travller (his screen name).

I have also started to look at converting Shadowrun and L5R. I also know that I can convert Mutants and Masterminds without a question.

Another cool thing about C&C. If you have your stuff from older editions such as 1E and 2e it is ALL useable again AND your 3E stuff stays useable. Go to trolllords.com and then click to go to their forum. We'll help you with all the SIMPLE conversion rules. Much of it is available as pdf's at cncplayer.net .

I can tell you dozens of us love C&C (those who come to the boards) because it is fun like 1E was but has the d20 mechanics of positive AC's, etc...

Try Castles and Crusades and let us help. You'll love it. Probably feel "liberated" and maybe like you have "gone home" again. Many of us have expressed those very sentiments on our boards. Plus a lot of other equally positive sentiments.

Seskis gives you a hint at the enthusiasm C&C will bring back to your gaming experience.

I tried C&C, but it really didn't impress me. If I'm in the mood to recreate Basic, why heck, I'll play Basic. I still play Basic and OD&D, all the time.

So I cast another vote for True20. Close to what the gang's used to, but much easier on the average gamer's brain.

As crazy as it may sound you might check out the Palladium FRPG. There is a lot of Kevin Siembeida (the author) hate on this board but I never had any problems with the system. The same core system is used for Beyond the Supernatural (modern day horror), and Rifts (Science/Super Fantasy). The books are also far cheaper than WoTC's too.

Also, you might consider going onto E-Bay to pick up a copy of the old D&D Rules Cyclopedia.

By the way, you've got two posts going on with the same subject.

I do not doubt this. I just mentioned minis, because they are rarely used in other RPGs than D&D. Savage Worlds is one of those others.
