I'd like to know if there were any changes to the following prestige classes from 3.0 to 3.5, and what those chages were:

  • Alienist
  • Bear Warrior
  • Bladesinger
  • Cavalier
  • Drunken Master
  • Elemental Savant
  • Fatespinner
  • Halfing Ourider
  • Mindbender
  • Order of the Bow Initiate
  • Pale Master
  • Spellsword

Yes. New versions of most of those are either in the Complete Arcane or Complete Warrior. Old versions are probably in Tome and Blood and Sword and Fist.

In some cases, such as with the Order of the Bow Initiate, the 3.0 version is better.

Have a look at Crystal Keep and their list of PrC's (it might be under a class list)
It'll have the source book which SHOULD be the updated 3.5 version. The copy I have only has the 1st 4 complete books and only a few campaign specific books (FR etc) though.

The pdf only has a 1-2 sentance entry so no help with what has changed but at least you can find out where to look.

Some books might have a list of PrC's that have been updated and where they are (player's guide to Faerun for example). Some moved to the DMG for instance.

Yes, I know these PrCs were updated in Complete Warrior or Complete Arcane. I have the 3.0 sources, but not the 3.5 ones. I have done some checking on both Crystal Keep and Forgotten Realms Helps on them. Both sites do seem to have the various requirements for the classes listed. Crystal Keep does have more info though. What I'm really interested in is how much the various level-based abilities may have changed for these PrCs, in particular stuff that 3.5 changed a lot like duration, DR and the like.

The problem is posting the information you want would end up violating the copyright/properatary information of WotC.

Crystal Keeps' abreviated versions is as close as you can get without crossing the line.

[*]Alienist
They took away the ability to slap the signature template on anything except animals, and they took away the ability to summon regular Outsiders, so it's a specialist summoner who can only summon things that suck. Poster child for overnerf.

[*]Bear Warrior
Remains viable.

[*]Elemental Savant
Remains meh.

[*]Fatespinner
Remains viable. Many people skip the 5th level.

[*]Mindbender
In 3.5e it's a one-level PrC. Don't recall how it looked in 3.0e.

[*]Pale Master
Lost some power, and wasn't all that powerful to begin with. You're better served by just installing some Undead Grafts (from ... Fiend Folio, I think?)

[*]Spellsword
Actually looks a bit better, now that you have related PrCs like Dragonslayer and Abjurant Champion. Still not something you want to take more than 1-3 levels of though.

Bah. This is reminding me of just why 3.5 irritated me so much, you know the whole replace all the books issue.

Of course there is always the easy way out, which is have a very limited list of PrCs for the campaign I'm working on.

There were massive changes in many things that 3.5 did.

DR was a major one.

Skills were changed, classes were changed (ranger particularly), the rules for weapon sizes, actions (3.5 in later books introduced swift and immediate actions), a lot of spells were changed. etc.

It is extremely difficult to "cherry pick" what you want in 3.5 (especially if you do not have the books) and only use those.
