Looking for opinions/advice on a game I'm in...

This upsets me quite a bit... I know this is an emotionally charged topic (DM Power balanced with Player Enjoyment), but saying anything about kicking the guy out on his ear is just mean.

I HAVE to allow for the idea that Tsyr's DM has a narrative in mind, and has just gotten into a bit of a "Control Freak" mode like Kahuna Burger said, but I also HAVE to allow for the possibility that he's not intentionally being a jerk, and honestly doesn't understand WHY Tsyr is upset about this. People think differently -- perhaps the DM thinks this should be enjoyable, maybe he's misjudged Tsyr's style (and thinks the angsty melodrama is what Tsyr was looking for), or maybe he thinks he's putting forth an adequate situation for evoking Angst, but actually falling a bit flat. I think rehabilitation is definitely much more preferable to ostracizing the guy.

First, I stated that this was a course of last resort, after all alternatives that could lead to rehabilitation failed. (But, honestly, if telling him straight you have no fun and he should change does not help then I doubt any chance of rehabilitation.)

IMHO, if I tell someone I have no fun with the way he runs a game, and he tells me that he cannot understand why I don't have fun and that he will not change his ways then he basically tells me that my enjoyment of the game and general wishes and opinions do not count in his opinions. With people who show such a disregard toward me I am not willing to spend my spare time with.

It does not matter if he understands why Tsyr is upset or not - only that he knows Tsyr has no fun in the game, and if he either takes action to remedy the situation, or not.

Forcing a player to keep playing a character that is no fun is, imho, about the worst thing you can do as a DM. In addition to that, the mindset behind that act shows, again imho, traits that go way and beyond a control freak DM.

I'm all for using that curse as a blessing... Slay them all, gouge out their eyes, and return in less than a week to do it again.

Or else, have him wander into the hoizon and never been seen again. Shred the character sheet. Destroy anything with the characters name, and then roll up something interesting but more to the DM's style, like Gene Eric, the Cleric.

Leadership

Heya:

With your high charisma (assuming I understand the feat correctly), your 9th lvl feat should've been Leadership; the cohort would be 9th level, too, right? Make the cohort and play the cohort as your "main" character. Do you think your DM might let you rechoose your 9th lvl feat? ;)

Take care,
Dreeble

Whaaaaaaat? You're invincible, and you're upset about this? I don't get it. Are you on drugs? What are you THINKING, man?

The Rasputin idea is definitely the way to go. Oderint dum metuant: Let them hate me, so long as they fear me.

Here you have a character which is capable of surviving anything. Threaten to follow them home, and kill their dog/spouse/children. If they don't do as you say, or if they kill you, go for it. :)

Now you see, that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb.

This sort of thing just seems very strange to me. You have some serious problems in communication between you and your DM. You've told that you don't enjoy playing your character, and I can't understand what the problem is. Can't you just switch characters?

The general rule of thumb is, IMHO, that PCs belong to players and the rest of the world to the DM. If player wants to switch a character, how could the DM prevent it? If you combine that rule with the "rule -1" (don't play with wankers) these problems would never occur.

I usually play with friends though, so we usually have no trouble communicating. If someone says he's not enjoying the game we'll try to change it.

1) Get rid of them, or I'm going to intentionally sacrifice my character next session and roll up a new character

2) Get rid of them, or you can play my character as an NPC in the party. I'm going to roll up a new character.

These are the only options I see too. And I would further tell the DM that, regardless of what he thinks, you ARE NOT HAVING FUN and that if he ever does something like this to you again, he can count you out as a player in future.

I understand your concern, and I can see where this looks like a bad situation all around. Deep down, I agree with you -- talking isn't probably going to solve this.

It would be nice if Tsyr and his DM could reach a private consensus on what changes could be made or slowly worked into the character so that both parties are satisified with the results, but I doubt such a perfect solution will happen. A lot of people have said that Tsyr should let this guy have it with the tools the DM inadvertently provided, and perhaps Tsyr should try diplomacy one more time, and if it doesn't work... then become the scourge of his homebrew world.

You're effectively immortal, you have high social skills -- drop the Shaman, take levels in Rogue and Sorcerer, make sure you up your Intimidate and Bluff through the roof. Work towards Assassin or Blackguard, and swear allegiance to the Dark Forces of his world for power. Bargain for powers to offset the curses you've been given -- become the classic anti-hero, and hope for one day to be able to play a redemption character. Maybe he'll see fit to change his tune about allowing you redemption after you sacrifice one or two of the other PCs to some dark god... :D
