Looking Forward to "Stormwrack"

True, no one ever accused me of running humanocentric campaigns. ;) In the case of BPAA, I took an easy out, while allowing for a greater choice of playable races. As you noted, dispelling can still disrupt playing a stock race using magics to adventure underwater. If you were set on playing a human, you'd still need an appropriate template, bloodline, graft, or similar venue. How about an escaped aboleth slave? Still human, just...slimy! Another option would be to play a human.... an undead one... as a ghost or emancipated spawn.

Or an Adept, Aquatic, Deep Human... Or, presumably, a Lizardman, or somesuch... :]

Nah, not for me. If a Ranger can't handle it, then... YMMV. Game on!

How about a Ranger with 6 ranks in Animal Empathy (ranger class skill Wild Empathy in 3.5e), 8 ranks in Wilderness Lore (Survival in 3.5e), 2 ranks in Swim and the Skill Focus (Swim) feat? That would qualify an individual for the Animal Lord (Marine Lord) PrC (MotW), which gets a First Totem ability to breath water at L2.

Or perhaps a symbiotic relationship with a sentient anemone? ;)

(edit: It has come to my attention that the Animal Lord PrC may have been updated in Complete Adventurer, which is one of the "Complete" series that I don't have yet, so the prerequisites may be entirely different. I'll have to look that one over before revising the "Mollusk Lord" PrC, who cares for a gargantuan thorny oyster known as the Shellship. Such a caretaker (the oyster's "pearl") must provide the Shellship with special food and lighting, among other tasks.)

I just looked over the Animal Lord (Marine Lord), now Sharklord, in Complete Adventurer. So much for unlimited water breathing ;)
