Looking to start a homebrew game with Dragonstar rules

Mirthcard: Soulmechs are ok. What'd really be cool is if your guy was aboard the ship 10 years ago. It'll certainly make for an interesting encounter early on, but you'll have to wait and see about that. ;)

So, our list is:

Calim (with Ensign Rognar, dwarven mechanist)
Mirthcard (possible soulmech rogue)
Keia (possible human cleric)
Uriel (gnome mechanist)
and Hawkeye (unknown)

We'll start as soon as everyone has a character written.

Sorry. I got caught up in work and a wedding anniversary. I hope to work on my chracter tomorrow and have something for you posted by the 4th or 5h at the latest. Crazy week for me.

A few questions...

1. Do we all start with the Technical Proficiency feat? I'm assuming so, but it doesn't hurt to ask :)

2. Could I possibly exchange the +2 Strength that Soulmechs get for +2 Dexterity instead? It would make my character concept much more viable and it could be explained as a new robotic body model that trades in power for ease of movement.

3. I'm interested in the background concept that you suggested. Should I develop that further on my own and we can tweak it later or do you have a definite idea of the crew under Rydberg?

That's all I can think of at the moment...

Here is the holding spot for my character. I'm still uncertain whether I'll be a wizard (favoring) or a cleric (more needed). I've started the cleric and have submitted a beginning for approval.

Just thought I'd give this a BUMP for some answers :D

I'm gonna be out of town until Monday, June 7th. I'll check back in then.

Yeah, we're still on. I haven't been around much as it was a rough weekend for me (this is one 4th of July I'll be eager to forget).

To Mirthcard's questions:

1. Yes, tech proficiency is free.

2. I don't know, dexterity carries a lot more weight than strength in this type of game. I'll get back to you on this one.

3. Well here, I want to give you as much leeway as I can and at the same time I don't you going too far off the deep end. I think it'd be best to give you two general impressions of what it was like 10 years ago and leave you free to develop the rest:
  • The crew was generally excited to serve with Captain Rydberg. He was a younger captain (36) but had a lot of deep space experience under his belt. He was generally regarded as one of the most respectful commanding officers in the fleet and a rising star in the chain of command.
  • B. This mission was one of the most dangerous assignments the ship had received since leaving spacedock several months ago, moreso for the proximity to the Gorganite border than the possibility of anything happening in the nebula.
    [/list=a]

Keia: I don't have that book, so if you do find something you want to use, PM me and write down what you want so I can OK it. The character looks OK so far.

  • Glad to see this is still on, Epoch :D

    To respond...

    1. Cool.

    2. That's understandable. As laid out in the main book, Soulmechs receive +2 Str and -2 Dex. Just to be clear, I was asking to flip-flop those, so my guy would have -2 Str and +2 Dex. Don't know if that makes a difference or not. For another possible solution, how about no bonus to Str and no negative to Dex. It would still balance rules-wise, my character would simply be on a level playing field instead of a penalized one as far as Dex goes.

    3. I think I can work on that concept. My character could have been made into a Soulmech during the "destruction" of the Majestic. Given the trauma that is associated with becoming a Soulmech, we could say that as each year passes more of my character's memory of his past fades. Like seeing a movie or reading a book years ago, then never seeing it again and trying to remember all the relevant details.

Let me know what you think,

    Jay

Mirthcard: +2 dex, -2 str is ok.

Everyone else: let me hear from you if you're still in, as I have an idea I want to shoot past everyone.

Still here, still interested. Waiting for others to flesh out their characters before finalizing the cleric (or a sudden shift to wizard).
