Yeah, I'm sure it will be funded, but if there were ever a less deserving one. That guy is really, really rich.

I mean, look at the video at the bottom of KS page, he's in a Ferrari or something exotic (and expensive).

KS shouldn't be about putting financial risks onto other people just because you don't want to lose any of your own money, it should be for people who don't have any money in the first place and need some to get their projects going.

That's a DeLorean. Not exactly an expensive car these days. And I doubt it's a new one. Back when Richard did the space travel thing he mentioned in interviews that he spent most of his net worth on it (the space trip, that is). So I'm not so sure he's all that rich these days, apart from tinkering with his houses (I think he sold the old manor to fund the new one, or something like that).

You can click on the Q&A:
Why do you need my money?

We have already invested quite a bit in the pre-production of Shroud of the Avatar. But we need your help in order to finish Shroud of the Avatar. By supporting this project, you will be able to collaborate with the developers, lending your voice to what features you would like to see added. You can be a part of the creation of the classic fantasy role playing experience you have been waiting for!

Plus, there are financial and legal reasons to not put your personal money into a business project. Richard Garriott's personal fortune (however much it may be after spending $30,000,000 to go into space) is NOT Portalarium's money. It's good business sense to use Kickstarter as a means to gauge interest and minimize his personal risk.
