Lord Ogglebottoms Odd Tasks: All in a Nights Work (DM: DMDanW, Judge: Renau1g)

[sblock=ooc]I intend to play Minharath as a few word, much meaning kind of character, so if I don't post for a while, it's likely because I simply haven't chosen to take obvious action. I will use this color, if nobody's taken it, for speech.[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=Whenever you guys are ready...]
I can move the adventure along whenever you are ready.
If you are done planning then just let me know (you can have your character get up and leave or whatever) and I can move along to the next part of the adventure. I don't want to rush you guys (I know some people don't post as frequently as others), so if you want more time to plan things out just go ahead and then leave when you are ready.

[SBLOCK=OOC]Don't expect too much tactics from Gloom IC. He is a bit suicidal as he want to join his tribe in Lauto's land. But OOC, I want him to live a long live...

I guess if we go there as a group searching for something (a boat, some blackmarket good (that one would be more interesting to know what inside that box), ect...) could do the trick.[/SBLOCK]

Thorn nods his head in agreement,"Ok, lets each wander into the Toothless Gator, one-at-a-time so we don't look suspicious. Perhaps an hour or so before the expected hand-off at sunset? Then we'll descreetly meet at a back-table if anyone finds any information."

If all are in agreement, Thorn will head down to the docks to get the scent of salt-air on his clothing. He'll look for a large ship off-loading passengers and try to blend-in with them, perhaps even sharing a few ales. This way he'll have a good cover story (ship name, where its from, etc) and he'll look/smell like everyone else before he enters the Gator an hour or so before sunset.

Gellan follows the shifter towards the docks, then slips away to climb up to the rooftops. From this vantage point, he spends fifteen or so minutes watching the patterns of movement from the ships to the various establishments catering to the sailors and back again. Satisfied, he slips from the roof of a fishmonger's shop and eases his way into a knot of merchant crewmen as they walk towards the Gator.

You make your way back through the ‘Commons’ and to the outer harbor. The area is usually busy with the hustle and bustle of ships unloading cargo and passengers, and other ships preparing to depart, but being that it is nearing dusk things are slowing down. There is only a couple of ship still unloading cargo and most of the passengers and crew have already made their way ashore.

[sblock=Thorn]
Thorn has spent some time mingling with the passengers offloading from the ‘Pinto’, a ship from the Isle of Opposition bearing trade goods from both the Valley of bone and the Empire of Jade. A friendly and talkative Halfling trader named Nino and a couple of his partners have accompanied Thorn to the Gator, and are sharing drinks over stories of how Nino happened to come upon a great deal on Bone carvings.

[sblock=Gellan]
Gellan makes his way to the waterfront with Thorn, but instead of mingling at the docks, makes his way to the rooftops. From this vantage point he can see the chaotic dance of the harbor as dozens upon dozens of people scurry about, securing ships, unloading freight, or simply coming and going. As the sun sinks lower the docks quite down and only a couple of late docking ships are still unloading their cargo, and the few passengers aboard are now making their way into town to find food, drink, accommodations and other services offered to lonely sailors. Satisfied, he slips from the roof of a fishmonger's shop and eases his way into a knot of merchant crewmen as they walk towards the Gator.

The rest of you casually make your way into the Gator. As you walk in it appears that the Toothless Gator is no different than any other waterfront tavern. The drinks and food are plentiful, there is a gnomish bard plucking away on a lute over in the corner, and the room is filled with patrons enjoying themselves. The clientele is mostly deckhands eager to drink away their pay and passengers hoping to drink away any bad memories of their recent voyage. Although the patrons here are fairly scruffy and grizzled, it appears that the Toothless Gator isn't nearly as bad as Ogglebottom made it sound.

Gellan sits at a table near the entrance with group of merchantmen deckhands, who seem to be engaging in a bragging contest about the ugliest dock whore they’ve ever been with, the boasts getting more ridiculous by the minute.

Thorn is at a table at the far side of the room with a halfling, a dwarf and a human, who seem to be talking about a strange looking bone craving the halfling is holding. The place is fairly full, although there are a couple of empty tables and a couple of empty stools at the bar itself.

Now, if you could only figure out who it is you are looking for…..

[sblock=Skill Challenge!]

Alright then, its skill challenge time.

The Challenge: Identify the contact person who is expecting Leonard to bring the ransom money.

Challenge Complexity:
1 (achieve 4 successes before 2 failures)

Primary DC:
15

OK PCs, You’re up. With six players you can have this beat really quickly. On the other hand, you can fail really quickly as well.

[sblock=Recap of Skill Challenge Rules]

· Each player describes an action that his character is doing, whether it’s tumbling past a guard or talking with a duke and the skill they feel is appropriate (plus the roll..)

· There will be a primary DC for the challenge set be the DM. If your description and skill choice fit the challenge it will be against the Primary DC. If it seems like a stretch to me, then it will be against a higher DC (the stranger the attempt, the higher the DC).

· If the player gives a particularly good description or role
[FONT=&quot]‐[/FONT]plays well, the DM can give him a +2 to the skill check.

· Not all characters will be built for all challenges. If you feel like you do not
have anything useful to add to a particular challenge and would do more harm than good, then you can always role-play the situation and attempt to assist another character with their skill check.

Gloom enters the tavern. He walks to the bar and ask for a mug of ale. Once he receive it, he spots a table where they are playing some gambling game. The group seems receptive to have stranger joining them at first sight. He walks up to it and take a look, positioning himself to see most of the room. "Hey, I have a few gold pieces and some time to spend. Can I join you? I would just like to look a bit to understand the rules, I am not familiar with that game yet." After the group have accepted, he look at the game, but keep an eye on the surrounding and try to judge the people in the place, if one of them would be the one they seek.

[SBLOCK=OOC]Gloom evaluate each person in the tavern by there demeanor and attitude. After 15 minutes of looking at the game, he will join, but staying cautious in his bet, trying to not lose or gain too much, and continuing to evaluate the people in the tavern.

Skill roll: Insight (1d20+12=28)
And if I have to see if I win or lose any money: Gambling (1d20=5)[/SBLOCK]

Jehad walks into the Toothless gator looking around until he finds what he's looking for. He then walks up to the nearest, most somber person he can find. "Hey, do you know anything about a package about this high and this wide?" Jehad asks in his rough voice while slipping out his knife and smiling sincerely.

[sblock=OOC] Alright so, 26 intimidate
Element for today is 7, poison
PS to any judge that might be reading this Jehad needs one more approval
[/sblock]

Gellan's eyes widen a fraction as Jehad forgoes the subtle approach. Never seen someone smaller than myself try to scare another into giving up information, he thinks as he observes over the rim of a mug of ale. Still, something about him.....there's a lot of power there.
