loss of limb

Ah, player's character concept, makes perfect sense. A war injury I presume? Its a great hook for lots of games "I can help you get that back. You just need to do a little something for me." Or the player gets it back and its cursed somehow. There might even be an old patriotic spellcaster who would do it for them. As a player's character concept I don't think it deserves any penalties other than the things you obviously cannot do with a missing limb. Don't punish people for making interesting choices, but don't break the games belivability for them either. I also think in Eberron there would be lots of affordable mundane replacements that work at least as well as many modern prosthetics, and a magic item would be available by 4th level. At which point the question would be: why doesn't he want it back?

ok so its gone cant use magic to get it back should there be a HP loss to the player and if so ... how much for a hand/foot, half a limb or the whole limb 2nd ed had such things at halp your HP i think thats a little much so whats your thoughts

Green Ronin's Skull & Bones D20 supplement for pirate games has rules for disfiguring wounds. It lists lost hands, arms, and legs among them...

Lose a hand: -2 to attack rolls with two-handed weapons, Climb, Craft, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Forgery, Open Lock, Sleight of Hand and Use Rope checks.

Lose an arm: -4 to attack rolls with two-handed weapons, Climb, Craft, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Forgery, Open Lock, Sleight of Hand and Use Rope checks.

Lose a leg: -10’ to movement, -2 Climb, Swim, Jump, Ride, Tumble, Balance, and Move Silently checks, and Reflex saves.

I believe Nemmelrele (bah, however you spell his name) uses lost limbs in his Aquerra campaign. IIRC, he has a wiki with his house rules.

El-Remmen. ;)

He uses critical hit tables; one each for slashing, piercing and blunt weapons. You can find them here.

Pick up Torn Asunder: Critical Hits and you will find a whole chapter dealing with limb loss and prosthetics. :)

I second this recommendation. I absolutely love Torn Asunder, of course I was always a fan of detailed critical hits, and have made many of the rules contained in it standard house rules for all my campaigns.

not intrest in runequest i'll just stick with what i got i can eay use the crits from 2nd ed we used them b4 just was seeing what folks thought i do use mines to some skills but nnot hit point loss as for replaceing the limb were in eberoon as someone pointed out i already put replacements into play soon after i got the book

I'll third the recommendation of Torn Asunder: Critical Hits (by Bastion Press). It's cool, fun, and not *too* difficult to inegrate into D&D.

I'll also say though, that el-remmen's Aquerra stuff looks wicked cool. A number of the rules I'm looking at and already pondering their potential usefuleness thisaway.
