Lost 1/12/05

The problems I have with the "beast" simply being illusory stem from the first few episodes where everyone can hear it and a lot of people see it crashing through the forest as well as the pilot encounter. I am not ready to believe there isn't something real there.
.
It's real.. I think it's not really a giant beast though... I think it is a person with massive psychic powers of both mental manipulation and telekinesis, which explains why the trees get tossed around and the pilot got munched... my bet is, it's Alex, the product of French genetic engineering (those diabolical French.... :) )

Agreed. While I knew right away that the sequence was a hallucination, inside I was hoping that Shannon really was offed. For some reason, I can't even stand the scenes that feature that character. And I still intensely dislike Boone.
Apparently, I'm the only one that likes Shannon. Granted, much of the time, she's a nasty manipulative bitch.... but in the few scenes where she is vulnerable (like the time when she damn near died from her asthma), she's appealing... apparently, I'm a minority opinion here... hopefully, they'll tell her backstory someday and explain just why she's so screwed up....

Like I said, from what I've seen, she seems like she suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. BPD's can often seem incredibly charming and vulnerable and appealing- it's part of their dysfunctional nature. I don't dislike the character myself- largely because I think the actress is really hot- but BPDs are not healthy individuals, and cause chaos and instability in relationships. Mix them with someone like Boone, who seems to have a "rescuer" complex... and you have a recipe for mutual disaster.

That sounds about right...and one of the reasons I really don't like either of them. I've known people, in real life, who resemble both these characters...and I didn't like seeing it, then.

It's clear that folks are lining up to not trust Locke...the question is, are they right or not. I personally think that Locke is being built up as someone who appears to be a bad guy, but really isn't. But at the same time, we still don't know what Locke thinks of the island...and it's clear that Locke thinks the island is, in some fashion, an entity. The question then becomes, is the island manipulating Locke? If so, is Locke operating under a false understanding of how things work....that is to say, he's a good guy, but he's been misled and is causing problems for the survivors? When Lockes says the rest of the survivors 'aren't ready' for the knowledge of the hatch....why?

Assuming Rosseau wasn't completely crazy or lying, what was she warning Sayid to watch for in the other survivors? Factionalism? Mutation? Delusions? Infiltration by 'the others'? What happened to her party that causes her to warn Sayid to watch his? How big was Rosseau's party, anyways?

I don't know that I've seen the "people are lining up to not trust Locke". Jack seems to be trying to get a hold on the guy by asking around. The only other person I can remember that doesn't like nor trust Locke is Michael. There are at least three people that trust Locke: Boone, Charlie and Walt (I know he's a kid but he counts).

I wish more had been done with this and I assume eventually will. However, it assualts my sensibilities that Sayid discovers this person and people are not clamoring to find this woman and the ELECTRICITY in her domicile. There was interest shown but not to the degree it should have been. I can't believe people did not try harder to force Sayid to get back to her.

I don't know...Sayid certainly sounded like he didn't trust Locke...and I thought he was implying that he wondered if Locke had given him a defective compass on purpose.

The question is how much Sayid actually told them, and how knows. We come back to what I was saying about Factions before. Everybody likes to horde their information, and it's still not clear who besides Jack knows the full details of Sayid's experience with Rosseau. The fact that he was so ready to discount some of her tale shows that he's somewhat disturbed by it, and is trying to distance himself from the experience, IMHO. But at the same time, he can't let it go...it bothers him.

Evangeline Lilly on Tonight...

"Kate", from "Lost", will be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, next week. I believe it will be Monday, but I could be wrong...

Especially now, since they have guns and ammo, making her rifle(s) less overpowering.

My guess: if they went back now, she wouldn't be there anymore.
