Lost Season 2, Second Pod

Fast Learner

First Post
Though I'm somewhat looking forward to the rest of this season of Lost, I'm not nearly as excited about it as I thought I would be at this point, and I though I've been a defender of how the writers have been revealing the mysteries, I'm concerned about it.

From a January 22 interview with Cuse and Lindelhof, when asked "A lot of fans are demanding those answers. How do you respond to that," Cuse said, in part:
"I think that if the characters became focused on the mythology, a lot of people would drop out. I think there's a much larger audience that's much more interested in "Who is Kate going to choose?" than the details about who Alvar Hanso is."

Blech. Now I'm even less excited.

I get the feeling that as writers comes and go and the mythology grows, the people producing the programs become less and less interesting in resolving plot threads related to the mythology and more interested in the easy payoffs of having characters screw around, do out of character things and toss away any growth they achieved in previous episodes. This happened with Star Trek Voyager and The X Files. I’ll bet you a carrot it happens here.

Seems like they're way out of character already, to me. During the first season they had clear archetypes that, I believe, were easy to identify with and really made the show. Jack as healer/shepherd, Locke as shaman, etc. They've pretty much tossed all of that, though.

I'm with you. Blech.

Me too, the direction the show has taken, moving away from answers and focusing on character relationships has been toning down my excitement also. Yes, I like the characters but it is tiresome to hear...Oh Kate, Oh Sawyer, Oh Jack, Oh BS. It was the mystery of the island that hooked me and the relationship of the characters to it.

I'll be watching, but only because I've devoted so much time to the show up to now. This next 16-episode marathon, especially the first few, will be key for me to stick with the series. I barely made it through the last batch. The introduction of the others and Jack, Kate, and Sawyer getting captured was analagous to the show getting in a crouched position in preparation of jumping over a shark.

I can't stand Ben either. I cringe every time he is on screen. His character is so annoying. I so want Jack to beat his ass.

I'm actually tempted to just walk away for the rest of the season, and let other people's opinions on the season determine whether I'll watch it on DVD or not.

So I see 2 episodes on tonight -- is one a "let's review" episode and the next a new episode?

That is what I gather.

To limit the number of reruns in the United States and Canada, the first six episodes, that started October 4, 2006 and ended on November 8, are being followed by twelve weeks with no episodes at all, and will continue consecutively with the next sixteen episodes, which will premiere on February 7, 2007, and February 11th in the UK. The first six episodes were broadcast Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m., however the next sixteen episodes will air at 10:00. In replacement of mid-season reruns, extended versions of the third season episodes will be run following the completion of the season. In addition, two clip-shows aired, "Lost: A Tale of Survival" on September 27, 2006 and "Lost Survival Guide" to be on February 7, 2007. Clips from the second segment of the season, entitled "Lost Moments" have started to be released on television and online.

Yep. Blech for me, as well.

Further, since I despise watching the Others (not my idea of "entertainment"), I'm not that particularly excited about Lost returning.
