LOW FANTASY/HIGH GRIT RULES, or, D&D meets Call of Cthulhu d20!

I'd use the CoC hp method and massive damage rules, instead of what you have.

The rest looks fine to me. :)

Good point. I had not read the Massive Damage Rules for CoC, and now I agree with you on both points. Thanks for the tip!

UPDATED ORIGINAL POST re: HIT POINTS, DEATH FROM MASSIVE DAMAGE and added BARBARIAN OCCUPATION TEMPLATE.

Do you think I should let armor = DR? Should I then remove its AC bonus and install a Defense bonus?

VARIANT ARMOR RULES IN CONSIDERATION:

Cap (25% chance of preventing criticals to head)
Helm (50% chance of preventing criticals to head, -1 to Spot and Listen checks)
Great Helm (75% chance of preventing criticals to head, -2 Spot & Listen checks)

Light Armor = DR1/-
Medium Armor = DR 2/-
Heavy Armor = DR 3/-
Full Plate = DR 4/-

Shields would add to AC as usual.

I don't want to adopt Ken Hood's Grim & Gritty rules (too complicated for me). I don't want to use VP/WP either. I want something fairly gritty/realistic but still fast and simple.
