Low magic

Any Ideas on running Low magic settings? I'm working on Ravenloft right now and trying to figure out a way to make magic a little more rare. Thinking of using Wiz,soc, clr, dru classes as open-ended prc's. for instance a character needs so many ranks in wilderness sense to become a druid (Ravenloft druids derive there powers from the land instaed of a deity) any thoughts?

Sounds good!

Myself, I considered this approach for the psionic classes for one of my campaigns. But since I'll run this campaign in GURPS now, that has become a moot point...

THe using magic classes as perstige classes is a good idea. Another thing is just weakening those classes. really limit the spells they can have or make spellcasting checks to see if spells actually work.

Watch out for CR as the characters get high in level. THe CR are meant for characters with a certain amount of magic. I found that out the hard way.

I plan to make my next campaign feel like low-magic by eliminating evocations. When the flashy stuff is gone the campaign seems more like a high-adventure story. I compensate the wizards by giving them free specialization (in other words, all wizards are specialists with evocation as their opposition school). It's been fairly easy to move, exchange or delete spells in the other classes spell lists. The best part is that it does not penalize (in strict game-ballance terms) people for choosing a spell-casting class.

Just an idea, YMMV.
