What the devil is she doing here, all the way from Venza? I must rescue her.... although she did turn down my sugar-encrusted dolly whopper. Such is life.... Francis kicks his pig into high speed.

Once within earshot, Francis begins shouting, hands flailing in the air, looking as harmless as possible. "Guards! Guards! Quick, the fur trader! They're being mugged by some ruffians! Someone shouted something about: 'Down with the queen! Down with the queen! I'll make her pay. Sell me some coats damn you!' You've simply got to hurry! HURRY"

Turning back slowly, she gives the guards the chance to respond to his words rather than drawing their focus back to her.

With your silence to their questions, the guards surround you. The ones with polearms had you covered with their superior reach.

The officer instructs the two on the end, "Go with that one to look into it. We will deal with these here."

Then he pointed to the three of you and drew his sword, "Keep your hands away from your weapons. You are coming with us."

The two guards move towards Francis John. They were wary as they approached, unsure if they were walking into a trap or not. One ordered, "Show us where."

Blimey! They didn't bite! At least not all the way..... let me try something else. Francis makes sure to non-nonchalantly catch Charity's eye as he speaks aloud to the captain. "Might as well strike while the iron is hot. Don't want to be late for any jumping fish! But I suppose there's always other fish in the sea." The halfling begins to lead the other guards across town.

Once out of sight and out of ear shot, Francis begins to make cordial conversation about the weather, any future travel plans, and ask about their families... all hopes of making new friends out of the patrol.

Although her lucerne hammer was every bit as long as the pole arms the guards carried, the way Charity carried it was certainly less menacing. With the odd appearance of the halfling on pig not having caused the stir she was hoping for, the woman instead spoke to dissolve the situation, "Hunh. I'm sorry, I did not realize that merely traveling your lands was cause for alarm. Although, I must admit, this unseasonably cold weather could well douse tourism interest in this little out of the way kingdom. Come to think of it, with this freeze killing any potential crops and shutting down trade, I have no idea where food is going to come from once the reserves are gone. Hmmm...." The red haired woman pauses, thinking a moment after coming to that realization.

Coming back to reality, Charity gets to the point, "Anyway, this turn of events is really quite shocking. Although I do not expect people to greet me with open arms when I travel, pointed weapons is another issue entirely. May I ask what reason there is for such a confrontation?"

One of the guardsmen, automatically jerked a thumb over his shoulder towards the northeast at Yosephus’s simple question, “The Queen is in her fortress in the mountains, but she doesn’t accept foreign visitors of the likes of you.”

The Captain of the guards snapped at his own man, “Stow it.”

He was no terribly impressed with Charity’s indignation. And he was even more nervous about the situation with two of his patrol being shown other potential insurgents causing trouble.

He was curt and gestured towards her polearm with his drawn sword, “You ain’t a tourist and I am not the welcoming committee. We don’t need mercenaries like you running around causing mischief.”

“Drop you weapon, now!”


At the Captain’s order, the rest took up combat ready stances and pointed their polearms at you.

Meanwhile, the two guards slowed at the corner before losing sight of their Captain. Not seeing any sign of the mugging or fur trader. One muttered a question to his companion, “What’s that about striking while the iron was hot?”

The other shrugged and kept walking. After a few steps when the Halfling started making small talk they stopped to listen. “Hold on! You just said we needed to come quick. I don’t hear any yelling of a mugging. Why do need to ask about our families?”

The other guard was more paranoid, “Maybe this is a trap! Remember what happened to Jenkins?” he asked his companion.

Whatever was going back with the Captain, all three heard the shouted order about dropping a weapon.

Well, this isn't going according as planned. Francis reaches into a belt pouch, and takes out a cricket. He holds it in the palm of one hand, and flicks it at the two guards who followed him. "Meet my friend Sleepy Pete." He waits to see if they actually go to sleep to see what he does next.
