Concern grew upon Levanna's features as Etan grew more dour as they traveled. She took the pixie's hand, nodded her understanding, and reached backwards for the nearest person in compliance with his instructions.

Levanna seemed just as taken aback by the stone gatekeeper as Autumn. Her jaw worked uselessly as she fumbled for words while she bounced between fear and wonder. The novice wizard was relieved when Arradon stepped forward and spoke their intentions with calm composure.

Zinnelis Laediril, Elven Ranger (Level 1)

Venza/Underbridge

Zinnelis took Levanna’s hand and reached back for Autumn’s as they made their way beneath the bridge to the hidden stone door, which was answered by the strange, large, horned creature. He wasn’t sure what it was, but it wasn’t making any threatening moves.

As Arrodan stepped forward to present their case, Zinn let the rogue talk their way in.

Underbridge


The creature is like nothing Autumn, or any of you, have seen before but the horns, quite like Rak’tan’s own, seem to indicate it is some sort of tiefling. Except that doesn’t seem quite right: its bulk seems to indicate ogre ancestry but a tiny pair of rumpled wings like a dragonfly’s protruding from its mountainous shoulders strongly suggests fey blood. If old folktales are to be believed, trolls live under bridges and demand a toll. Whatever it is, it’s an enigma.

The creature turns his beady eyes on Arradon and squints. ”Torgrimr,” he says, naming himself in response to Arradon’s introduction. He puts a hand against the sliding stone door. Muscles bulge and strain but the door grinds, stone against stone, and opens wider. ”I don’t negotiate in the open.” He shifts his head, inclining it toward the water where a submerged woman’s face with wide, fishy eyes, watches. As people turn to look, she dives and only a glimpse of pale skin and fins can be seen.

The passage beyond the stone door is dark but Torgrimr turns and disappears down it.

Arradon Delgaran

Arradon's smile disappears as soon as Torgrimr turns to lead them in. Assuming his usual manner, he cautiously follows the hulking man through the passage. It had been a long time since he had used his charms to talk his way through a situation, he personally preferred a more... decisive approach. Nevertheless, sometimes charm works just as well as a blade.

Zinnelis follows the large Torgrimr and the others into the darkness under the bridge. He averts his eyes momentarily as Levanna flares her magical light to life, but is grateful for the illumination. He slides his bow into his hand, just in case, though leaves the arrow in his quiver for the moment as he scans around, keen eyes searching for danger.

Underbridge


The fey troll, Torgrimr, leads Arradon, and each following in turn, through the passage lit by the pearlescent gleam of Levanna's magic. The stones of the passage change abruptly from the precisely cut and fitted stone of Venza's premier bridge to large boulders, roughly cut and stacked so that irregular, dark holes dot the walls. Moss grows on the old stones, and water trickles and drips through the cracks. Occasionally, the flash of some creatures eye can be seen in the crevices as it darts deeper into darkness.

The passage is blessedly short and ends in a strange, irregularly shaped room. Every wall and cranny, the floor and the ceiling, all are covered with doors of every conceivable design. Some are painted, some are carved, some have elaborate door-knockers, but all are closed tight. As you enter you realize that the doors, one crammed up next to the other, give the room a constricted feeling but the room is actually quite large.

In the center of the room, sitting on top of and blocking a rustic wooden door, is the root system of a tree, carved into a large chair. Torgrimr sits in the chair and stares out at the group examining each in turn. Since Arradon started the conversation Torgrimr eventually turns his beady eyes on the elf. "What will you pay to have the way to your destination opened?"
 


[sblock=OOC]Either/Or. Whichever you like. Etan would have told you as soon as you discovered you were going to Underbridge that you wouldn't be able to take the horses. At this location, the Grand Stables is much closer; the Inn is on the opposite side of town.[/sblock]
